Is this bad news?

My girls are 4and a half weeks into a 12/12. I have noticed that some of the buds hairs are starting to turn brown already!! They are still very small which is worrying.. only 2 or 3 hairs on each bud though! Also a couple of the leaves have dried out and curled up on the ends.. Hopefully all is not lost!! Anyone know why?? You can't see on the pics, how do they look otherwise? Oh and they're either hollands hope or afghani so I hear.. Would be really grateful for any suggestions....
