lol i have a space of about 2ft x2ftx7ft and had a hps 400w and as u can geuss it HOT so now instead of getting a hugh noisy extractor fan im hopeing i can get an envirolite and a couple more flourecents instead

So your trading down from a 400w HPS to a shit load of flourecents, couldn't really work out how many watts from your post. If that is the case, then just no man don't do it.
HPS lamps are far more effiecent and produce more lumens than flouro's which means more and denser buds. It would be cheaper and a much better idea to add a fan to your reflector.

i'm with berny. it is not a wise idea to downgrade lighting! your yeilds will decrease as well as the quality of the buds. exhauast fans aren't always loud. there are alot of high powered fans that are almost silent. i had 2 exhaust, 1 intake and 2 circulation fans in my 400hps grow and you could not hear a thing even standing right outside the closet

mmmm ok im still with hps 400w for now the problem is of course the heat ive got an extractor fan on its way soon . i solved the ballast buzz noise problem buy sitting the ballast on a peice of carpet with some fireproof corex covering from the light. extractor fa to follow today or tomorro

mmmm ok now my ballast is louder lol cmon peeps help me out how can i make this balast silent?

mmm ok it seem my ballast is silent....when something is constanly blowing on it....i dunno why but if i sit there and fan it like mad it goes silent then if i stop the buzzing comes back.......so im gonna have to keep the cfl's up untill i get 2 small fans one for the ballst to keep it quiet and one for the actualy growroom to keep the temps int here down.

i'm not an electrician, but it sounds like you have a problem with the ballast. how old is it? i had a 400hps and the ballast didn't make any noise as long as the light was plugged into it. if the ballast was plugged in and no light was hooked up to it then it would buzz but otherwise you couldn't hear a thing unless you put your ear right next to it. i would get the ballast checked out. if you have to run a fan on it to keep it working properly then that means you are probably at a lot greater risk for electrical fire because it isn't working properly. instead of buying a fan either bring the ballast to a hydro shop to get it checked out or buy a new one. i am a firm believer in not taking any chances when dealing with electronics that could be a fire hazard. image if the house burned down or worse because of a grow! i would never be able to live with the quilt if i put my children out of a home because of shoddy wiring in my grow. that is one of, but not the only reason i stopped growing. good luck and be careful.
