420 -- coined in the 70s by some high school kids now in their 50s. there's several meanings of 420 on wiki. one being the smoking events every April 20th to celebrate, and 4:20 pm has become sort of a world wide "burn time".
Anyone here been to one these?
I seem to recall that it's also Hitler's birthday. Not positive about that, but I seem to remember hearing that a long time ago.
It basically just means to blaze one. The time, date, etc....all just lumped into the gag. That saying has been around for several decades.

You gotta buy one of those High Times books. They explain that. Had something to do with the time. I don't think I've ever smoked exactely at 4:20. I'd have to be puffin in the car.

latest issue of high times relates it to a group at a high school in calif in the 70s called the waldos, they would meet at some statue to get high at 4:20 so they would say louis 420. so high times says that is where it came from. same town that had the grateful dead head quarters and being the traveling freak show it is that helped spread the 420 saying.
