That will work but if you can afford it try to find an air-cooled hood. It would save you heat and for most growers that is an issue.
Are you saying you can put a conversion bulb [MH] into an ordinary HPS ballast??
I thought it was the Ballast that needed to be the special conversion type .i.e..A Conversion ballast that can take either an MH or HPS bulb?

They make switchable ballast yes. They also make conversion bulbs so you can run a MH light in a HPS ballast. As well as the other way around. They have been on the market for years, it's nothing new.
ah right i dident know i was wanting to try something with a bit more power im only using a 200w envirolite at the moment:)
Thats not a bad deal. I would go with a Hortilux bulb (430w or 400w hps) though, one bulb is all you need. Best of both worlds IMO.
