relationship of lights to buds

can anyone help explain to me the relationship with the plants distance from the light to how tight your buds are... because i have read some places that the farther your plants are from the lights the looser your buds are as well as producing less bud all together... can ne one give a good explanation to this???

as long as your planst rnt going to get bernt put it as close and u want but if ur using hps or mh depending on teh wattage is how far u wantto heep them away
