cheap and easy CO2

I read this in a school science site. To make cheap CO2 use vinegar and egg shells. Crush egg shells and put in a plastic container, then pour vinegar over egg shells.

I took a one gallon water jug, drilled a 1/4 inch hole in the top and plugged one end of 1/8 inch black tubing. Then stuck holes along the tubing for the gas to escape. Hang tubing near the top of plants, since gas is heavy.

Easy and cheap. Replace vinegar when mixture stops bubbling.

I am sure it works too. Problem is there is no possible way to regulate the amount of gas you are releasing so you loose control. Plus there is a point where home made methods max out and never reach the 1800 ppm the plants like the most.

But in truth any extra amount of CO² above 300 ppm is good for your plants.

Adding co² is sheer bullshit.. the only way it could be good for something is when you don't have the oppurtunity to ventilate or add CO² tabs too the water for more nodes.

I work at a growshop and we did a little experiment about it when co² injection was a trend under growers. 2 growcabinets, one with additional co² injection and one cabinet with a proper ventilation system, both under the exact same conditions and climate. The cabinet with the co² injection had a lesser yield and smaller plants. We suspect that the cabinet with the proper air ventilation had a better yield because of the thicker stems a plant produces when adding a better draft in a growroom.

The co² tables are avialeble at aquarium shops, they use it for better growth of water plants. Don't ask me how but it works like a charm, only downside is that it raises your sodium levels a bit in the water. Not very bad for the plants but when you use a EC meter it wil be off one or two tenths.

The only thing about adding co2 tabs to water is I hear the roots do not use co2. the micro organisms in the soil which break down organic ferts and give flavor would sufficate as would the other benefical forms of life.

Never heard of co2 decreasing yields, that is a first

Some people say they DO take up co² through the roots and some say that's impossible. I don't know but from what I've noticed I get much more internodes when I do use them.

Internodes production is usually caused by a higher auxin to cytokinin concentration

Using Lime Stone chips and vinegar you can buy huge bags of these lime chips for next to nothing.
