Resivoir for ebb and flow

Hello everyone. This is my first time posting on this forum but I've been reading it for a while now, and just want to say thank you for all of the valuable information.

Anyway...

I would like to start an ebb and flow SOG system using a 55 gal plastic drum as a reservoir for two 3x3 trays. Will this work? I wonâ??t be able to rely on gravity to drain the trays though, so I guess I need to pump the water back into the res? Anyone ever done it this way?

cant you just get a ebb flow and drain fitting
they're cheap and work well

Yeah, I was plannin on it. But what Im sayin is that since the resivoir is going to be taller than my flood tray, thus on a higher plane, gravity will not work to drain the nutes back into the res.

Actively pumping the nutes back with a pump could be difficult with all those hydrotron balls in the way....and also you might leave nutes in the tray which could rot the roots......bad idea man.......go for a gravity drain off ,,believe me.

I your system doesn't fit in your cupboard of whatever....saw it in half or something

put the drain pump in the res and then you can pump it back to the 55 gallon drum. It would be more like an ebb grow system they sell with a control bucket.
