metal halide/hps versus fluoros

I know mj can be grown using both forms of lighting, but is metal halide really that much better for veg growth? Has anyone grown same strain using both mediums and kept a photo log?
and about hps, are they that much better for flowering? same followup question applies here...

also, i've heard about hps (special) grolux being used for veg...isn't easier to get the right spectrum by just popping in a conversion kit for a metal halide bulb?

one more...which is easier, metal halide ballast converted to use hps bulb, or hps ballast converted to use metal halide bulb? I'm a little bit confused about the whole thing...:confused:

you are going to want a hps for flower.. it will give you much better results gaurentteed--much more lumens than floros :P

vegging with floros isnt so bad, ive never ran a test on floro vs MH for vegging but im assuming MH just makes your plants grow faster.. since your plants arent flowering, using floros for vegging wont effect the quality only the speed of growth, but the same does not apply with hps vs floro because of the high amount of lumen being put out by hps bulbs

wassup well zandor says go cheap grow cheap so withthat said for a better commercial grow high intensity distacharge lamps (hids:MH, HPS)are ideal but for a more money consient grower flourous/cfls will work except at a much less advanced rate due to the drasticly lower lumens content of flouro lights but this could be compensated by using more bulbs and amping up the wattage like a certain knowm i know does what was the last cont 14 15 cfls per plant talk about overgrow!, also hids emit much more heat then flourous and call for a good ventilation system in tight spaces not to mention bring up the light bills over extended periods of time but yet an still cant beat hps for flowering and mh's for veging.. so my answer would be in an economy free grow setup use all of the above cfls for sprouts an clones mh for veg an hps for flower..holla..

fluoro's-clones/seedlings...400w MH & 250w hps for veg and 1000w hps hortilux for flower

If you are in a small cabinet or are very limited in height...cfl's are the way to go, but you will need the 125-200watt cfl's for flower, unless you don't need much yield...Maybe Bobbong will chime in, I believe he has made great strides with cfl's....Me, I need MORE POWER!!!

latewood are the results better using the mh and hps mixture as i use fluros for veg and was thinking of adding a 250 watt hps do you think it would be ok with fluros

You still making those lighting kits?... I'd like to go to mh as soon as i can....the sooner i can yield, the better. the kits you make can use both hps and metal halide, right?

I currently have 6 in soil, and two in hydro... im only in second week so ive got a ways to go till i can sex them, but assuming i get 4-6 female plants overall, what wattage should i be looking at? i was thinking 400w should be enough, (maybe two 400w's) with mylar and ventilation.... argh, i need help! :D

Hell, yeah...Use both or all three...to be honest I have at this time because of tomato's, all 3 at once.

4-150cfl's...the 250hps and 400 MH I also have 2-1000w MH. Waiting on bulbs...I ordered an Agrosun Gold lamp this time...

I really don't prescribe to the black/white issue:confused: of hps/mh...Many growers use MH all the way and Many more use hps for flower, but prefer MH for Veg.

I truly believe that If you have 3-4000 watts of good light:dance: , it does not matter what you are using. IMHO:smokin: You have to be able to grow in the 1st place.

Keep in mind, all of you 'New' to this 'Way of Life'...You better be ready to lay out some Big Bucks if you want to Yield big; However, you can get a good yielding perpetual clone growing operation in 6-8 months, if you make a plan, keep it simple, and grow smart...get you a 'Mother' and clone a few every month to keep you in stash...goodluck.lw Oh Yeah, Buy good genetics, right off the bat:thumbsup:

I am a little confused... does a ballast hold both an hps and mh bulb or do you need a special attatchment/kit? ps. Latewood. I'm still interested to know if you are selling those 1000w ballasts or not... I could probably go with a smaller wattage, but that would give me room to expand and that never hurts :)
