You need a ballast with the proper socket. A ballast is a big electrical box that lights up the bulb. There are seperate ballasts for MH and HPS. There are also switchable ones too. Also, the ballast you get (lets say 400W MH) can only be used with a 400W MH bulb and nothing with different watts (no 250W). Goodluck <3.
yes you need a mh ballast for mh bulbs and you need a hps ballast for hps bulbs. Or you could get one ballast and use the other type as a conversion bulb ( saving you some money as you only have to buy one type of ballast). Or your other option buy a switchable ballast wich will run both bulbs!!
Personally I'd rather add a little bit of money and buy a whole new ballast as apposed to a conversion bulb due to the high prices. That way you can run both bulbs at once to get a better spectrum of lighting. Goodluck <3Quote:

because a regular house hold light fixture will not power that bulb!! You could try it if you would like but youre gonna be disapointed.Go to google and do a search on HID lighting and you will see what you need.
yeah it needs a ballast
AWWW damn, Someone should post a link to a VERY cheap ballast that would work for the 175 watt bulb, thanks.....
Wow, so DEMANDING. :DQuote:
