Hello MGE :) To be honest I don't know anything about CFL, however I do like MH lamps. They are excellent for vegitive growth and they can also be used for flowering if needed ;)
Only my opinion but I reckon the MH is the best all rounder.
love mand xxx:)
A rooting Hormone in with some ferts to add rooting strength????
No. I think.
I think, CFL's are best for the first week, then SMACK, the MH!:)
Thats exactly what i do. CFL's are easier on young plants/seedlings and clones. But after a week or 2 MH is what you need.Quote:

The MH would kick the CFL's ass.. That is after the first week!:)
First week seedlings are VERY weak.. Therefor, something that doesn't put out much heat is best.. !:)
But, when the seedlings get stronger, use the MH!:)
i voted MH cuz you cant get 1000watt cfls :)
for seedlings... cfl is best - it saves you money on electricity and they are cheap. If you gotta use MH - keep'em back a ways... MH will burn'em (if its big enough).
MH is probably the "prettiest" light there is for growin' herb :pimp:
MH is known as the better light only because the average wattage used is usually 10 times higher than cfl. But the actual better light spectrum is cool fluorescent for veg, if the wattage is the same cfls are the better spectrum and will give tighter internodal spacing.
