ec meters

I am just about to start my first hydro grow. Will I need an e c metre.

I have found a ph meter for £9 on e bay which I know I'II need

I have also found a 4 socket contator for my 400 hps. WIll I get away with using an ordinary timer switch????????

i use an ordinary timer on my 400 hps it works fine, but some get burnt out at switch on, but then wont turn off..which is not good.
