Hydro 5.2 to 6.2
soil 6.2 to 7.5
It can mean a world of difference. to far out of range and you get nutrient lockout. Soil seems to buffer the PH some what.
Drop some pH down into your water or even some lemon jiuce or vinegar
There is a Ph chart in the FAQ section you can DL to your desktop so you know what nutrients are available at what time in the plants cycle of life.
