Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence - The lean adventure

I turned 19 last month :thumbsup: . To celebrate I took the love of my life to Camdem town (for the US stoners, it's the weed and shroom Mecca of London) for some retail therapy. After parting ways with her, I went home to what turned out to be a very long and irritating leanfest, thanks to the hard work of annoying, geeky friends and unreliable pikey dealers :cursing: (but that's another story) .

The next day, me and my homeboy Magpie took the trippiest adventure imaginable: A Johnny B. Goode (that's our codename for a spliff packed to the brim) followed by an advanced screening of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence at our local Odeon. We had been waiting for this day for a long time, GITS2:I being one of the craziest and visually mindblowing films in existence.

We set off at 2030 hours, giving us enough time to toke that Johnny up at a nearby playing field and get to the space station Rotunda for a 2115 hours start, and toke that Johnny up we did :stoned: . Time was short (it was fatter then expected) so we set off in a hurry.
Instantly the effect was there, riding the bike was like being stuck in a freeze frame, gliding a few inches above the pavement along a set path to what we knew would be a trip with a capital T. Cars and trucks that casually drove past us sounded like roaring demons of metal, screaming past in a thick crescendo of lights, smoke and noise.
Somehow we made it into town, locked up the bikes and with all senses on high alert following the nightmarish circus of a journey, entered the cineplex. There was no time for munch, we grabbed our tickets and staggered into the screening alongside questionable anime-nerdish types (who we mutually agreed, had their place in society)... The trip was on.

What followed was probably the most incredible experience I have had in a cinema. The film was like a drill that bored into my brain from the word go. The sound, animation and eerie Japanese choir music mixed a cocktail of hard trip that took my mind for a joyride and back. The deeply philosophical script (of which I had found confusing on a previous viewing) suddenly made tragic sense. It was mindblowing and on several occasions all me and Magpie could do was swap frozen, battered grins of stoned awe in eachother's directions.

A hearty discussion on the death of quality cinema at the hands of half-arsed, American cheese followed on the way home. We had seen a genuinely brilliant film among months of very average, cliche'd Western bollocks, made into a beautiful experience thanks to everyones favourite herbal medicine :rasta: ! If your an animation fan, I wholeheartedly urge you to check that shit out on the basis you get monged beforehand :thumbsup: . BB out!
