Sure, it's old school theory and there is science behind it as well. There is a trick to using that method. Soil temperature, humidity, air temperature and light play an important roll. Sex in not pre-determined in the seed, sex is set in the RNA of the plant and not in the DNA. So sex is determined in the first few weeks of the plants life. Nature does play a major part in sexing a plant and nature will find a way to survive.
