stick ur hand inbetween the light and plants...if its hot...lift the light up

Well that may be an over simplification.
Obviously if your hand burns, so will the plant.
But you also need to be concerend about radiant heat. Its an atmospheric temp that may not be uncomfortable, at first, to the human skin, but will dry the surface of the leaf and kill a plant...especially babies.
Causes of radiant heat death are ususally HID lights too close, and or the use of reflectors. A fan does not help this kind of heat. It is best to use FLORO lights for the youngsters.
