Need advice for alaska outdoor

Just moved to alaska this spring. I'm right on the arctic circle surrounded by miles of empty tundra.

I am very experienced in growing indoors and have a hydro system going atm.

I want to take advantage of all the empty wilderness and 24h a day sunlight in the summer next year.

From what I observed this past summer, the snow was gone from the tundra by mid June with only snow lingering along the coastline hugging the cliffs. The tundra is swampy in most places with islands of dryer spots mixed in. The long days lasted from june through august and started getting some darkness in September. The last week we have had cold nights with the temp dipping to near freezing and we had our first hard frost this week (first week of October.

I want to take a couple dozen plants out with my ATV and GPS and plant and forget till harvest time.

Here are my questions:

1) What conditions should I wait for to set the plants out?
2) How big should they be before setting out?
3) Any fertilizer that I should use when setting them out?
4) what kind of area? swampy, dry or a mid point between?
5) will they survive the frost and cold temps of october we experienced this year or will I have to harvest before it happens.

Any detailed advice from an experiences fellow alaskian is very welcome!

as soon as the snow melts...
put em out when you think there strong enough...
the frost will fuck it up so get some lowrider or an early flowering plant .

WOW - the tundra--- sounds fucking INTENSE..

Well, if you can plant them next to a rock (or build some sort of barrier) or somethinng that will cast a shadow on them, you can get them to flower earlier.. and thus finish earlier... reducing the frost factor..

What is the PH of the snow?


I would love to see pics of where you live.. sounds incredible!!!!!

did think about checking the PH Doh! also shade is going to be tough.
