ScrOG - Correct tying locations? See pic.

Hopinâ?? you guys can help out at Newbie Crossroad #00485 (lost count during grow box construction actually).

Yrs and yrs buyinâ?? baggies that barely closed but never saw â??howâ?� a bud actually forms. Have also seen so many great pics of flowers and buds you all have posted but none that Iâ??ve seen so far show whatâ??s goinâ?? on below or behind the flower tips and foliage.

Youâ??d think plants magically jump from flowers to harvest-ready buds.

In a ScrOG you need to know where to tie down branches to establish where they will turn vertical. But how many new mini nodes will be part of the bud?

The pic below shows a primary branch which is 7 primary nodes back from the plants main kola (off camera to the left).

As a newbie grower, Iâ??m puzzled by what I see here at Day 11 of flowering. We know buds have at least a few â??stemmyâ?� â??nodal forkingsâ?� inside â??em but in growing you may not know whatâ??s up if you have a plant like this (bagseed skunk I believe) that was probably sliced and diced for commercial productivity, and where new flower tips seem to appear every time the plant nodes off again.

This has gotta be a pretty stupid topic (anal question) for the experienced eye but... Iâ??m putting it up as more or less part of my Fragmented Searchup Grow Journal. Hopefully the threadâ??ll help out some newbie out there in the future someplace..

First time growers canâ??t know if the flowers (like blue arrowed ones in pic) will simply form smaller buds (or â??nuggetsâ?�) of their own.
Or...
Whether these pistil clusters - flowers - will spin up into the larger kola. If so, then it would be important to locate your tie-down for this branch more over to the right. In other words - tie someplace before / or lower than the nodes that have flowers.

One thing that haunts me is what the term schwagg means when people talk about bagseed. This plant has to be skunk. But mâ??man for 10 yrs knows I want good weed. Thing is, I make it a point not to ask details like strains - so - well - what Iâ??m saying is I donâ??t know if this photo shows some kind of genetic anomaly from commercial production trimmin, prunin, revegging, clipping, topping and so on.

Should all of the â??blue arrowâ?� flowers in the pic be climbing vertically together at this point? Will they twine up as parts of a huger bud or into separate smaller buds? Stupid but I could not say they wonâ??t rise above the canopy as individual bud sites?

ArightOkay, Hereâ??s how the legend on the photo breaks down:

Blue arrows - point at flowers which, to this newb, look like they could become buds of their own, OR could just as likely beome part of the final big bud.

Letter A. -- This is approximately where I had this branch tied down so far.

Letter B. -- This lower secondary has a visible flower tip, which - please help on this - Iâ??d like to know would Letter B, be a good typical cloning candidate for my second attempt - plant has a lot of these that prob wonâ??t make it up through the foliage (leaves) anyway.
Or, since Iâ??m sure yields not gonna be an issue, should I instead clip out a few primary tips for my second cloning attempt.
Oh - almost forgot - Since I will be cloning clones at/from flowering phase, how much longer than normal is rooting liable to take? A couple days more or a week or more?

Letter C. -- Primary branch exits main stalk.

Letter D. -- Location (behind leaf and wire) where I think this branch should be tied down. Yes? No? Maybe?

I think you're doing ok... but wait for advise from the experienced guys. I'll be watching your thread, as I'm planning on doing a SCRoG too !

On my scrog, I have learned you just tie down everything you can and every thing you see.

One problem you have is that you are in the process of tieing down while in flower.

Why do this? A scrog is really designed to grow low, and then once you have your SCREEN of GREEN then you flower. Your bud sites should all be developed and the screen enclosed in green FIRST.

Those little tips you are referring to will generate tiny little itsy bitsy buds that will take about 3 to make a joint once dried out.

In your next scrog, let the SCREEN 'o Green develop and engulf your screen prior to flower.

Also, now that you are flowering it will be difficult indeed to take and make some good selective cloning candidates...and the longer you are into flower, the more difficult it becomes.

You need or want a couple of good sized green leaves fully exposed to clone successfully and the tips you have are focused on flower pistel developement now not green fan leaves.

Anyhow, yes, you tie them right where you suggest. I forgot all your other questions.

Scrog is a great way to make clones and keep a mother alive...In my scrog I have never seen so many secondaries and I no longer even know for sure where the main kola is located.

I am hampered cuz of my acid bath I gave her by mistake, but the attached pic shows a peece of the grow.....the secondaries should be large, fully developed and properly exposed PRIOR to flower.

You dont want to go into flower still tying down if possible.

The pic below shows how the plant should be fully tied and fully grown prior to flower. Note the fullness of the secondary growth tips and the number of them.

They are perfect clone candidates or, future flower site....but they are large and developed enuff to choose either / or. Just make sure next time they are complete prior to flower.

Trying to spring for an HID or a couple CFL' s like Harddon's. Or a couple Lucarow if available outside Australia (in US). Or those mini HPS that Marc Benton found. Any good, H??

With those CFL's you have, you could prolly get about 3 oz.

With an HPS you cuold get about 5 - 6 oz.

Budget are meant to be broken,.,. thats what they're for :)
