Question is for Zandor or anyone whoâ??s done pruning. H-man?

Pics show first grow box with plant 30 hours into SCROGinâ??. Still 24/7.

HST?? Yeah. Cause it was like tieing a screaminâ?? toddler into a crip. Heart ached at every tug and pull.

You can see by other pics it looks like I should have plenty of room to try a few clones.
Will have to rework lighting and put in a partition.

Including pic of blower I got for $17. Should work good after one end of intake is taped off. Quiet and efficient. And cheap. and matches 4â?� ductwork. Lucky find.

Question is this...

I got 8 to 10 lowest branches that have to come off, 4 of which have decent preflowers and will be cloned along with 4 others taken randomly. Other four branches are dead or dying anyway. For now I mostly need to know if there is any over the counter or household balm or whatever I should slap onto the wounds after I slice those branches with an Xacto knife.

I had read somebody saying that pruing branches was way stressful so just double checking. Will start a log soon but any question or comments are welcome here too.

Hey from what I've read when you prune, if you have to, cut further up the branch/stem so as to leave a few inches of it left coming out of the main stalk. This way it forms a sort of buffer zone. Harder for any 'disease' to get into the main plant that way. If you cut them off flush with the stalk...well you understand.

A couple of thoughts....

I think you may have problems before long......those CFLS you have are in a fixed position....along with the others...all on the same horizon.

Your plants will want to be very close to the lights....much closer than you have them now. I would lower them to within an inch or two of the tops. That is the best fan you can buy for the money so you can get them within an inch.

As those shoots grow, they will not all grow at the same rate and a fixed light horizon will make it difficult to raise and lower lights for each individual case or need.

You might wanna take them off the fixed sockets and buy some of the $2.00 free sockets with wires hanging out of them....Tie them from the ceiling with twist tie and that way you can adjust the height of the individual light.

Just a really nice job.....I feel for you. I had a hard time breaking a few leaves on the small plants forcing them in between the wires...I can only imagine doing it to a whole tree.

As far as your question......

Whatever tool you use, make it quick. Make the cut happen in an instant. Sitting there hacking a real branch with an Exacto Knife may take longer than a split second.

It needs to be fast and clean. And MB is right....leave some branch. No salve is needed for the wound as far as I know.

Can you imagine what would happen to this plant if you had a 400 watt hps over the top of it when that time came? Or are you going to have?

Have a possible reflection burn issue I found late last night. Tried posting it last night but don't think it took.

Back on the issue of these snipped branches - as well as for the "outside the box" (read literally if you are now stoned - :p ) stalk, I'm assuming I'm okay - won't compromise 12/12 - so long as no leaves develop out there.

Just seal it off at point of entry.

Worse would be to wrap stalk with black plastic or even breatable paper 'cause of mold threats - agreed?

And I agree with HD on the lighting. Be better if you had them all so you could position them where ever they needed to be for best growth. If it were my grow this is how I'd have them situated right now. X's represent lights === represents plant.

Might as well save bandwidth - plus time's of the essence again on this reflection burn issue.

Please notice Picture #1 of Post #2 in this thread.

Notice at the top of my wood mounting bar the reflection off the back wall.

Please now take a look at the picture below, where just this one single leaf set was left in contact with back wall over first night of this set-up. Fried to a limpy black.

This one side coated white masonite stuff -- damn!! -- thought it was sufficiently "flat" white.

Dunno though. I must admit that without exhaust system in place - I actually leaned the front panel to aim some light back in and down - maybe the angle did it - maybe I'm okay when front panel snugs on at 90 degrees.

$50,000 question then is, if I have to give the whole box a coat of spray on "Flat" White, how long should I wait for her to recover before I put her through another whole trauma like that.

This is the kinda thing I hate about thinking outside the box. No. I do mean literally. :rolleyes:
