I've looked into it, I don't blow glass myself though I knew a guy in sacramento who did/does?... I guess you are supposed to start by making beads to learn with. About 500 bucks for a decent torch/supplies set up is what I remember but anywhere from 400-1000 bucks really depending on what kind of projects you want to do. For beads you could go with a cheaper kit, for pipes you would probably be in the 6-8 hundred range. If you want a fat ass torch and all the cool little tools you are lookin at 1000 bucks or more.
ok, cool thanks.
Im actually looking to produce small round multi colored glass objects, not necissarily intense inside out smoking pieces.

Yeah... now days they do it with torches mostly and use a smaller oven so the peice doesn't crack as it cools. At least for pipes and stuff like that. I am sure the blowers who make huge glass sculptures, bowls and vases and whatnot still use furnaces but I have never seen a setup like that.Quote:

this may help
We did it in Chemistry class with propane torches. I made the shape of a heart out a glass rod. It's pretty easy to bend and stuff and it was pretty fun. If you could get a block of glass you could get a torch and then just burn it into the shape then let the excess glass pour off into a bucket. It would be harder than getting a kit or whatever, I assume but if you're not looking to make detailed projects out of it then I'd say that just because it would be a lot more cost effecient.
I have once, my uncle makes potery and hes a really good artist. He took me and my older sister to his college and we blew glass it was really cool and i still have the stuff i made.
