Help with young plants

Hi guys I'm new to posting but not new to the boards. I have tried to grow about 5 times and everytime my plants never make it past 2 weeks. The problem is the stems on my plants grow fast and are skinny and fall over. I have tried using toothpicks and twist-ties but the stems are so skinny and fragile after a while the stems just get mushy and the plant dies. I thought at first it was because my plants were reaching to the light but during the day they are outdoors and I doubt they are reaching so much for the sun that they kill themselves. Could I somehow be overwatering and making the stems grow too fast or something? Thanks

Well you could germinate them indoors under fluorescent lights for one.
Then you could make sure you only fill the cut 1/2 way with your soil mix (NO MIRACLE GROW). That way when the plant stretches to much you can just add more dirt to hold it up until it grows up a little.

That's just an idea you can try.

I dont think over water will cause the plants to stretch/

Stretching is almost always a sign of not enuff light.

I don;t know of anything else that will cause it time after time.

Shade does not equal sunshine.

Are they in the sunlight itself??????

8 hours a day?

I put my pots outside when I wake up to soak up the rays and when i come home from work the sun's usually just setting and I put my plants under my lamp in my room. I doubt it's flouro but It's one of those lamps that has the 5 stem like arms that come off to individual light bulbs so I put like 2 or 3 lights on my plants. I tried your idea Zandor and it works very well my babies look much happier when they are straight!

for your young plants you are better off keeping them inside under the lights and not move them outdoors.

Yesterday I put both of my 2 weekers outside and one completely fried in the sun and the other didn't. She wasn't even worth salvaging. :( I was thinking maybe the change from 65 degrees in the house to 110 outside is shockin my plants, hell it's a shock for me to go out into that blazing heat myself. later
