High Pressure Sodium Light problem
Hey everyone. Today I bought a 150watt Philips high pressure sodium clear bulb hoping to use it with my plant. I got home and tried it out... and it didn't work. Is clearly not broken... then I read it doesn't work with normal light sockets... then I saw "fpr use only with ANSI S55 Ballast. I have no idea what that is. can someone help me out with this light?

You need to have a special ballast and socket to run an hps bulb. It does not run in a standard light socket. Sorry, I would suggest looking around ebay for a good light deal, Buy a complete light kit with bulb, ballast & Socket.
Good Luck

Aw that sucks! How is Home Depot with returning items? Can I return it? It was 21$... it sure is worth getting my money back.

If you still have the recipt it shouldn't be a problem. Just tell they you got the wrong one and you just want your money back, because you got the right one some where else. If they give you any problems, tell them that there guy said it would work and they were wrong.....

well the guy I talked to was very missleading. i asked him which ones would fit in a regular socket and he said this one would. so its not fair! I don't know how soon I will be able to get back there though...

It's not like they have a real clue at HD or any retail store anyway. Most of the people who work there are not knowledgeable enough to make a living in the trades. They either become building inspectors or work at HD or Loweâ??s or Ace sorting nuts and bolts all day. Not always the cream of the crop (if you know what I mean). Some are great they are retired so look for the old farts, the chances of them knowing anything of value is greater then some kid. There are always exceptions but not many.
