few questions on the stages of growth
I've watched videos and documents and taken notes but I still have a few questions on the stages of growth
1) Germination and seedling - between moist paper towels and when a sprout cracks up you put it in 3/4 inches deep into those egg carton looking thingies. keep the soil moist and the hps light 2 feet away when a seedling pops up...my q is should i use fertilizer? and when do i transplant these seedlings into the 4 gallon pot?
2) vegetative - feed fertilizer and water frequently. keep hps light away 1 foot. keep fan blowing constantly. when im misting the plants should i put any fert in that too or just water? since im growing northern lights from nirvana which grows up to 4 feet should i induce budding by the time its 2 feet?
3) budding - 2 weeks before harvest you should stop feeding fertilizer... im not exactly sure when the harvest date is so how will i know when to stop? then of course you dry and cure. since im a beginner and i might not do things perfectly what should i expect my yield to be?
basically im just confused as to when to start doing x and stop doing y.
also some general questions... since my closet is 3x3x8 should i have a 400 or 600 watt hps? ill be covering the closet with metallized or aluminized mylar.
thanks for the help.

What is the Watts on the hps?
If you use good soil you will not need to fert for 3 weeks at least. When you do fert for the first time, use only a quarter of what the directions say. Each strain is diffrent, some like lots of food well others do not. Take it slow and easy your first grow and it will all come together. If you veg for 5 weeks I would only fert 1 time and maybe 2 times in flowering.
You want to get a ball of roots going. Start in a 6' pot, wait 2 weeks and transplant to a larger pot to finish out veg. When going into flowering you can transplant into 4 gallons as they will grow like made when flowering.

Calm down on the ferts, and do not over water. Grow them to 2 feet

I do not know how long till harvest but could be 7 to 8 weeks. My strain takes 12 weeks flowering. Your yield depends on so many things, keep the healthy and you should be fine, Do not over water and over fert..

600w for a closet, it will get HOT!!!
few questions on the stages of growth
again im confused. btw im prob gonna start off with a soiless mix
noosa says not to use fert during germination but eight says i should use some
and you're not always supposed to put fertilizer in your water every time?
thanks.
few questions on the stages of growth
I said that?
I thought I said not to fet for at least the first 3 weeks and then only 1 time in Veg and maybe 2 times in flower.
few questions on the stages of growth
sorry i was assuming that you were assuming that i would be getting soil with nutrients already in it.
So you're saying that if I get a soiless mix of 1/3 vermiculite 1/3 perlite and 1/3 peat moss that I won't need to fertilize for the first 3 weeks?
few questions on the stages of growth
You said SOIL
"keep the soil moist and the hps light 2 feet away"
I thought you were using soil.
soiless mix
No big deal
:)
few questions on the stages of growth
Mate its a weed..
I do outdoors every year and after they have establised themselves in the starter pots.
I transplant them into Larger Pots and I only use Straight water to settle them in..
once they have been sexed and are large anough to cope with the Occasional grasshopper.
I put em in the Ground...
I use liquid worm castings(worm shit).
and a Good quiality Potting mix.
and also Mix it with Mushroom compost.
and I'll also give them the Blue Nitro Pellets twice a year also..
Because im in the sub.tropics I will have to water every afternoon in the summer and every second day when flowering starts...
They get enough nutrients out of the ground.
so I give em Mostly water and I aint had no complaints.....:D

Not even I'm confused  What growing medium are you considering using?
For your first time you should just stick with dirt. Growing indoors is fine but use soil for you grow medium. The mix you are talking about is a little hard for beginners to balance the Ph and keep it balanced. Watch the heat it will kill your hopes fast if you let it get away. Fresh air in and hot air out of your grow area is a must. Donā??t over water use a meter so you know when to water and watch the Ph of the soil too.
few questions on the stages of growth
I really don't have a clue... Should I get something premixed? What should be in it? Anyone want to shout out any brand names (I'll be going to Home Depot probably) ?
