Interesting advice from DJ Short,on photoperiods..
Howdy Y'all,
I just came across this interesting little tidbit from DJ:
dj short says (about lighting )
" After many years of first-hand experience breeding herb indoors as well as outdoors, I am of the opinion that the two most influential factors involving phenotypic variation and expression among current indoor herb breeding projects are the photoperiod (hours of light per day) and the angle of light in relationship to the growing plant.
Specifically, I find the single most powerful influence to the Indica dominant phenotype is the traditional 18/6 veggie cycle and 12/12 flowering cycle. The 18/6 veggie and 12/12 flower cycle is an attempt, however poor, to mimic the Indica-producing photoperiod. It is my belief that this light cycle strongly influences for Indica phenotypic expression.
Sativa phenotype characteristics will manifest under a more equatorial photoperiod, closer to a 13/11 veggie cycle and an 11/13 flower cycle. This is the light timing range to use to elicit more Sativa dominant expression from your plants.
As for the exact photoperiod formula that I incorporate into my growing/breeding regime, this will presently remain a trade secret. My advice is to experiment with different photoperiods, keep good notes and pay attention. Avoid the 18/6 and 12/12 photoperiods, while tweaking the times a bit differently with each breeding cycle until more desirable results in the finished product and their offspring are noted. Heres a hint: work in half-hour increments or a little less, and good luck! "
I hope this gives y'all advanced growers, something to think about..I'm going to try DJ's idea out..cuz if he don't know what he's doing..nobody does !
Have a good one !

hello torog mate,
great info mate, i think i read it somewhere myself, i think if if you have the time decreasing the hours of light you give it before indusing flowering by half hour at a time will be far more natrual for the plant, and much less of a shock, it can only be better, i think its allways best to keep things as close to natrual as possible., take care mate and be luckey
........... peace happy ...........

I note how he never mentions 24/0 vegg.....
Good advice indeed.
I also note he says the "angle of the light."
THis can be translated I believe into the type of bulb....ie; HPS simulates sunlight in the late summer and fall, hence the angle and kelvin variations.
Great info...thanks TORAG.

just when i swithched the lights on 18/6....hello again guys....hey torog this is very useful info, really invaluable for this and for every grow......hardon i see your point....hello chappie....i wonder has anyone really tried what DJ shorty suggest about the veg stage for sativas? i am going to be growing them for my next grow :)
NGOS:)

no mean to barge in like an idiot as usual... but after reading this, am I to understand that I can determine the type of plant (sat/ind) i get by adjusting the lighting? I read somewhere that the lighting would help determine the sex of the plant..

Howdy happy,
I agree, keeping enviromental conditions as close to natural,is a good thing..especially if it results in a higher brix factor.
I hope and pray, that you and your's,are well:) I've been wanting to warn you about my 'friend's' recent experience..seems the postal dudes paid him a visit and saw some beans that he had recieved from a foreign country, they opened the packs..but didn't take the beans..how weird is that ? Be careful....
Have a good one ....
