All I have found for the pc are these oversized table top joysticks, which resemble a fighter pilot's control stick.
I need a handheld joystick. If possible, I want to avoid involving 20 year old electronics, but it's looking more and more like my only option is to convert my old atari CX-40 9 pin to USB.

Go atari! lol no idea man! well they have those computer controllers that kinda look like ps2 controllers, guess that would be an option, then again dont know what u need joystick for tho
Yeah he's right trying to use one of those store bought joysticks never were any good..they are hard to position, they USED to have to be constantly recalibrated, and unless you can attach it to a chair with an armrest your gonna have one sore elbow....you might as well sit there and hold on to your dick....

Skyo, lol, read my initial post. That joystick is of the "jet fighter" variety. And why do I get the distinct impression you could better comprehend my second post (w/all the numbers) than you could the first one (in English)!?
THis one is cheap, but closest thing to a "joystick" that is entirely handheld since the old atari jobs (that I could find anyways). I wanted it for activisions anthology (80 classics less than TEN BUCKS!)- I got it purely for Demon Attack- funnest game ever on the 2600 system. Between that and a plug and play or two, you can have your Atari emulation covered. Breakout is a must have- its so simple the rules and object of the game are apparent by just looking at a screen shot. But the action is subtle- there is a learning curve for the strategy. Once you can get going at full speed, it seriously makes crazy rhythms and melodies (no music otherwise), addictive. Breakout was originally played on "paddle controllers", and you can get a plug and play paddle w/Brkout on it, but I recommend the 10 in 1 joystick plug and play- has breakout, AND Adventure (layed the way for Zeldas and all games of this type to follow-overhead view adventure game- definitely worth checking out). Especially to teenagers who might have never played a system with less than ten buttons on the controller. Of course xbox, psII, and even the portables are not even in the same league, but these are clean, classic, simple fun games.
