as the title reads this question is about the maturity of the plant..
Is it possible to let the plant over mature ?
if it is possible what would be the outcome ? will the bud be strongest ? would the bud be weaker ? moldy ??
what would happen if i just let my plant keep growing far beyond harvesting time ?

In most parts of the world the climate is such that cannabis is an annual plant, living roughly 6 months. If pollinated it would drop seed and then die, fertilizing the earth for the next generation. Indoors, mothers can be kept for several cycles but obviously you'd be cutting it back regularly so it wouldn't have the chance to grow to any great size. Once the trichs on your plant begin changing from clear to cloudy it's just a matter of harvesting at the ratio you prefer. Waiting to harvest=waiting to cure=waiting to smoke =)
Outdoors, the cloudy glands begin to turn amber, then dark as the resin degrades.
If you chose one area and watch it closely you will start to see uncapped trichs.
If you place a sheet of white paper on the soil and the winds don't blow, you will find tiny, black, specks that used to be capitate glands.
They shrivel and drop as tiny specks.
I once collected a pipe full of these mini poppy seeds and gave 'em a try.
Very disappointing, just made me sleepy.
All is not lost though.
The sessile glands are exposed to less UV and last longer.
But, they too will succumb to heat/time/age.
So, my advice?
Harvest anytime after "mostly cloudy" for best potency, and some uppityness.
For a stonier experience wait for some ambering.
But, if you start to see uncapped trichs, it's getting late, chop chop.

Oh gawd, the waiting XD During my second run I spent so much time just sitting around, watching the girls grow that my actual lady was getting jealous. Mother-hen syndrome to the extreme. Managed not to love them to death though.
Weezard- I hadn't known about the glands dropping, appreciate the research you did on their efficiency as medication.
Quess I'm to touchy feely, and then have to weight those couple days to get some. I know that early pick will get you smoke quick, if that trips your trigger. I tend to smell it, squeeze it, even taste it, just adds to the fun.
Poncho, can you whistle? I can warble like a bird & I whisle old folk ballads to mine. The gentle breeze makes them quiver keeping the stems strong, & I'd like to think I exhale enough carbon dioxide to give them a little boost. That also helps me pass the time, & keep my hands off them! LOL!
-- BUGS! I hate bugs! I 'spray shower' my plants regularly with a squirt of mild dish soap in the water. If I see bugs in the soil, I flush with it, followed with a flush of plain water. Rarely do I need to break out the insecticide. Love me some lady bugs & their so cute! Like mantises too, but if you pet them too much, they bite! :(

I use pretty much the same insect solution, plus a couple drops of Neem Oil. If memory serves me right it's squeezed from a Mediterranean evergreen plant and bugs can't stand being near the stuff.
