noob: light distribution?

well obviously this is my first time growing. this might seem to be a dumbass question(which i believe is), but i just want to know:

do the lights(indoor) have to shining over the plant(whole), or does it only matter when the light only shines to the roots?

Because ive got this set up, where i placed the lights coming from the top right side of the plants, well the ligths are over the plants due to the fact that their only 3 inches tall, but for later, when the plants grow like 2 feet tall, do the lights have to shine the entire plant?

Light has to reach the entire plant. Yes, you are correct, it is eassy now, but once they get growing, the foilage must become much more dense otherwise you get a lot of stems and sticks and not enuff buds and you just wasted a grow.

Use all the light you can. Too many people focus on just canopy light. Thats works when they are babies, but you wont get small bushes or mini-trees without ample lighting.

A good grow area needs light that reflects and bounces all over the place hitting deep into the stem of the plants. The more undergrowth, the more bud sites.

I rotate and turn my plants every few hours. I make sure each side of the plants spends plenty of time in direct light.

At least once a day, I lay my plants on their sides to address the light issue. That is one of the reasons my plants are so 'bushy', because of the presence of light!

Any part of the plant that doesnt get light, doesnt grow and flourish as it should.
