You could use a flourencent light all the way but your plant would suck. Long stems, almost no weight to your buds. come on man. An hps is your best answer and can be used in both veg and bloom. The more wattage usually the more weight fo buds. They have 75w, 150w,400w,600w,1000w. Ebay's got'em. But if flourecent light is your choice. Here's the benefits. Low operating temperature, one of the coolest light sources available. Cheap, you can go to any hardware store and buy a 48" shop light fixture for $10 euros. The 48" cool white bulbs are even cheaper 2 euros each. So for 24 euros you can have a dual 48" flourecent light fixture with little heat and 4000 lumens. Make shure you keep them really close to the tops. The more flourecent bulbs the better. Plug them into a timer and tadaa. Problem solved. Hope that helps.

professor:
despite what dialtone said, i've had two grows with a 125W fluoro. the lamp does have a red side and a blue side -- and i switch to red when i go to flower. i bought it from ezhydro at ebay (less than $100 - comes with relector and chains). both grows were tremendous!

Or buy a system which runs both MH and HPS bulbs. All you have to do is swap the bulb over. Easy peasy.
