This is Gizmo looking for old cancommers who remember the late Mong & friends HELPpls

Hi all

This is a partially a belated introduction and partially an attempt to track down some people who originally used to talk on cannabis.com between the late 90s and early 2000s. If you recognise my intro, or you recognise any of the names below, PLEASE PLEASE get in touch.

I'm Giz, (originally Gizmo) now 30-odd from London. Mum of 2. Happily attached to erbie. (As far as I know, our eldest was the 2nd cancom baby after ODBs (Old_Dirty_Bastard & Old_Dirty_Bitch aka Alexis). I first stumbled accross cancom when I first got dial-up in the 90s and spent many happy years here :) I made some great and lasting friendships here and really regret losing touch with some of the people I met.

Sadly in 2008, Mong, an active member of cannabis.com passed away in tragic circumstances at the age of 26. Unfortunately, due to Mong's "inactivity", her hotmail account, contacts and emails were deleted - along with precious evidence - more on this) and the one person who her mother had contact details for, did not bother to get back to her properly and the poor lady had no idea if Mong's online friends knew or cared what had happened to her.

The little misinformation that did filter through at the time was that Mong had taken her own life. Having recently managed to get in contact with her mother, we have learned this is not true. Mong's online friends were a big part of her life and her mother would dearly love to make sure her friends know what happened and to hear from anybody that remembers her.

There is also another issue. Mong's death was preventable and she was failed by the authorities. Her mother is an amazing woman who has spent the last 5 years tirelessly crusading to make changes to the system which failed her to ensure further deaths are not caused. This lady has refused to settle out of court, she does not want money, she wants what is right. Although she has achieved a great deal to benefit others, her investigations revealed one thing in particular she cannot drop. A "professional" who sexually abused a young girl, plying her (and others in his "care") with drugs and alcohol. He deliberately targeted a young victim who had been sexually abused (and kept quiet) before. Although a staff member suspected to be the culprit was suspended during one lot of investigations (the original complaint by the victim's mother was ignored), due to the girl being utterly unable to give evidence, this "person" returned to work with I believe an unblemished record and terrifyingly still works in a position of trust and authority with young/vulnerable people. Mong was also under his care (although thankfully, not sexually abused) and it is obviously crucial, that this person is properly identified as he may still be abusing people. Mong's mother obviously wants to respect the wishes of the victim's mother, who, after the botched investigations does not want to dredge any of this up for her very vulnerable and still recovering daughter, who even after 5 years, is unable to talk about it. However, Mong did mention this "person" by name to one of her online friends here and her email/chat correspondence would have contained a lot of information, which could still help now (hence the dual tragedy of the lost contacts). She may not have explicitly said he was a professional, just a bloke who gave her booze (or maybe drugs). So there is a pressing reason to track down as many people as possible that she may have spoken to.
