First time grow, also known as "WTF was he thinking"

:wtf: Hubby got a 1/4 ounce to help with his pain on a recommendation of a cousin while we were out of state visiting and hubby ran out of his pain meds (severe back problems that meds hardly helped with anyways). Pot brought it from a 8/9/10 (was a 9 the first day he tried) to nearly NOTHING!!!! YAY!!!! Long story short, we're looking into getting a med licence for our state and were talking about growing our own then so as he had what he needed for his pain IF AND ONLY IF we couldn't figure out a pharmacy-med way of getting his pain under good control (no luck so far after 18 months of trying - about to talk with a diff type of pain specialist in September, so you never know).

Apparently, that 1/4 had TWENTY EIGHT seeds in it. Yes. 28 seeds. And it was really good stuff! He smoked pounds and pounds of the stuff in his far past, and only remembers having better weed a couple times, and this was CHEAP through his connection - about $50 for the 1/4 and was right weight and all!

DH (dear husband) borrowed a nursery flat and some Jiffy 7 seed starters from my spring gardening stuff and planted... all 28 seeds. *headdesk*

We now currently have 24 seedlings, nearly all with a first set of leaves already. Thanks hubby. Just great. Now I have to figure out where in the world these are going to all go.

From my research so far, I think we can likely flip the lights to 12/12 in a month to weed out the males (we'll keep ONE for now to give us a few seeds), so I'll hopefully be able to find enough room for the girls unless we have 20 or so females! EEK!


What sort of CFL bulbs do I need to get? My closet is about 2.5' deep and forever wide, so what bulbs should I get and how far apart do they need to be? How far apart should the plants be when they are in 6/7/8" pots? What sort of filter should we get so smell doesn't affect our neighbors (houses are about 20' apart, our bedroom to one of theirs...) nor our KIDS as we have 2 in the house (they don't know, wont know - too young to get it really, anyways, but still)..

They are outside in our greenhouse for a day or two while I get things set for using a shop light for a few days until I get paid and get the proper CFLs and closet set up for them.

So, what do we need for the set up? Any suggestions for how to cull enough so we have a decent amount of space? Should we wait until gender shows? What if we have too many females once they show sex? So many hard questions.

Thus, "WTF was he thinking" when he planted 28 stupid seeds??? I guess he wasn't thinking we'd have such a decent germination rate! Got 25 of 28 so far, one died from being dropped and snapped in half... So we still have another 3 potential as well. EEK!
