Weed - my story - advice and insight please.

Hi guys, new to the forum and really enjoying reading all the threads.

Anyway basically I have been smoking weed since I was in high school but only ever smoked on the odd occasion. I always felt bad smoking up as it is illegal here in South Africa as it is in most countries. I quit smoking cigarettes some time back and found that I started to drink a lot more than I used to. Essentially I now drink everyday up to a bottle or 2 of wine. I enjoy the relaxing effect it has, but really starting to hate alcohol in general. Obviously everything in moderation which is not what I am doing.

I started smoking up with my bro in law about 2 months ago about 2 or 3 times a month lets say. I really really enjoyed it and decided that I wanted to get some weed for home where I could relax and smoke. I have now been smoking at home for about 2 weeks or so and feel like it really has changed quite a few things in my life. Not only am I not drinking nearly the amount I was, I am also a lot more chilled and patient. I am also finding that when I am stoned I often am able to put certain things in my life in perspective and things tend to make more sense.

On a few occasions I have smoked up, thought about certain things I could do better in life to help the wife out as well as my business, and the very next day woken up and made those changes which were all positive. Whereas before, I would get drunk the night before and not remember much the next day and so the cycle went on. Wake up tired and run down.

I have watched a few documentaries about weed and there really is no evidence that in moderation weed is that bad for you. I look at booze and I think I must really be messing up my body but don't seem to feel the same way with weed.

Is it possible to continue life normally if you smoke up daily, or even every other day. Obviously weed gets a bad rap by many people, but strangely enough these are often the same people that abuse alcohol.

Would love to hear some thoughts from other members.

well first of all welcome. second, enjoy your new found awareness. most of the negative info you get on on herb will be propaganda put out by most government agencies.
they run bogus studies, manipulate the findings to suit themselves then only publish whatever will back up their theories. unfortunately for them someone will do real research and refute their claims and then it starts all over again.
if smoking has helped you then id say "if aint broken dont fix it." enjoy it, thats what its there for. anything in excess can screw you up.
as for making you lazy or amotivational, i gotta argue against that. i run my own business and im considered a "chronic smoker". i smoke everyday several times a day. no problems worth mentioning in the last 30+ years.

Thanks for the pleasant reply. I really do feel like it has had a remarkable effect on me, for the first time in life I am realizing certain things and taking action to improve myself as a family man and a business man.

For me as well, weed doesn't make me lazy or unmotivated, if anything I get more done assuming its not very late at night.

welcome. yes, I find that after a few puffs of good bud I also seem to be better able to put things into perspective and come up with novel ideas that I don't know I would have without it. I guess there are some effects on short term memory while under the influence but I say that's not a bad thing it helps me think outside of the box. and I also had a similar effect that you had when I was younger I drank way too much but when I discovered bud I found I had no desire to drink at all. The feeling I was looking for in alcohol I think I was finally getting from bud. but yes, moderation is the key.

I smoke every day and Im more in love with my life and myself, my family and every aspect of my life is better. I work harder and over all want to be a better, more positive, person. I see nothing wrong with any of that at all.. and society shouldnt either. So, cheers :jointsmile: here's to enjoying life.

This is your choice my friend. Weed can be "bad" for you. By this I mean if you cannot handle the drug and continue your business at the same time then you shouldn't smoke. I'm saying for people that call of work or fail in school just because they smoke weed, that's the most stupidest thing anybody can ever do. If you think you can do it, do it. But keep an eye out for yourself. Sit down every week and make sure your making progress overall in life. If you can do that, you will be happy and can relax with weed every day.

Mal420Xl hit this one right on the mark. All propaganda and not a single verifiable study has ever been cited by a government. It all started in 1894 with The Indian Hemp Drugs Commission Report commissioned by the British. It is a lengthy study of over 3000 pages. America joined in the crusade against hemp in the late 1930's. America's stance on cannabis prohibition is well documented and many web pages are dedicated to information about these early drug czars. The fears and issues that started the whole ball rolling were, racism, greed, ignorance and the desire to legislate your morality to that of those few powerful men. The funny thing is those are pretty much the same things that keep that ball rolling today, albeit a smaller ball now than in a very long time.
