do i need to use a crutch/filter with a rolling machine?

ok so i can roll normal size joints ok, but i have a zen cone roller that rolls amazing king size cones that i cant compete with. but ive always been told a filter or crutch is required in a rollin machine. i personally love smoking a roach out of my bowl, so i dont like using crutches. i feel like the resin that builds on the crutch is a waste, whereas if you smoke a filterless roach u get it all. not sure if thats true though. but i just have a simple question lol can i use a rollin machine without a filter/crutch? sorry i got off topic lol i'm a lil spacy:stoned:
