A few questions about Hermie, and temperatures

Hey all. I hope I'm not asking to many questions here. Sorry if I am. I'm just freaked out because yesterday the room my grow tent is in had a door left open and light got into the room for about an hour or a little more. Not a lot of light but there was definitely a little leak. My tent was mostly closed but it did have a crack or two light could sneak into. Anyway,

1. Can you guys explain how and when a plant will start to hermie? I want to know things like

2. if a plant is more likely to hermie in earlier stages of flower, middle or later stages? Or is a plant just as likely to herm at any stage? (especially from a small light leak for an hour or two) Mine are starting their 5th week of flower in a 10 week cycle.

3. Or can it just as easily herm at any stage?

4. I'd like to know what causes a plant to start to herm? In other words, is it because the plant receives light during the dark cycle? If so, generally how much light does a plant need during it's 12 hour dark cycle to make it herm? Will a couple hours of non direct sunlight make them herm?

5. Are there other reasons a plant will herm that I, as a grower, have to worry about? If so, what? is it still good if hermed?

6. IF my plants start to herm, when will I notice and what signs should I look for?

7 IF a plant starts to herm, is that plant screwed? Can it still be grown out and smoked? Or just thrown in the garbage along with my tears?

8. Lastly, how do you guys keep your rooms/tents cool in the summer? It's getting in the 80's here in CO and when my lights come on, blowing 80 degree air into the tent does noting to cool it down.

hermies are not always the end of the world. no one wants them but they dont spell disaster every time. they can happen for a ton of reasons some easy to explain some not so much.
the drawback is seeds obviously but the process of making seeds takes energy away from producing more potent trichomes. it can still be killer herb and the plus there is, the seeds will be more inclined to produce females since it was a female pollinating itself.
probably best if you do find a plant with a hermie, whether its one or dozen, is isolate it so it doesnt contaminate more plants or your flowering area in general.

recently saw someone post about a hermie on another site

they pinched off the bananas as soon as they saw any & said it turned out to be better than any of the others from the same strain

still better to get it out of there if you want to be safe - and it could depend on the strain

also, some strains from some breeders are more prone to hermie than others - maybe you should search your strain name +hermie & see what happened for other people?

Hermie discussions can be intense. It's all a matter of degrees and perspective.
Are you growing expensive kind clones/seed or just 'pot seed'?
Is it head stash or commercial medical grade?
A little bit of bananas late in flowering with few or no seed is usually tolerated better than a bag-o-seed.
Some tropical sativas are hermie prone but still worth growing.
etc.

I had a lemon skunk hermie on me late in flower last year. It was a plant I kinda ignored and it was defiantly stressed for water at times. As I understand the factors that cause a plant to hermie are stress and genetics

Stress can be caused by many factors like my water stressed lemon skunk or lighting issues. Many years ago I read an interview in High Times with a hash maker from India. He said in the interview that if he sees signs of a hermie he pulls on the root system slightly. Just enough shock the root system. The claim was that this would stop the plant from going hermie. I have never tried this.
