Outdoor grow in Austin, TX during winter

		Hey guys
I'm currently in Austin and I am looking to grow outdoors. I am on a low-to-nonexistent budget here so I need to know if I can do this with absolute minimal spending. It doesn't really get below freezing until late at night, and even then only a couple of degrees and for a couple hours. I would attempt an indoor grow, but as I've stated I'm pretty tight on money for equipment, etc.. Thanks guys!

I've been in Austin, when it snowed. I think you would be well advised to ask the mods to take your location out, that city has a big illegal Texas, in it.
Secondly, I'd save your seeds until spring. ;) The plants, generally freeze, before your nuts. They prefer the warmth.:rasta: pr

I'm within 65 miles from Austin....I wouldn't try to grow outside until the middle of May.
Just takes one dip into the teens to kill the shit outa pot plants(according to my experience)
Beside that, an 8 footer outside is kinda hard to keep hidden.
And beside that....Get caught growin' the dank in this state and they will throw the FELONY book at you.
For less than a C note' you can get a fairly decent start on 2 or 3 plants indoors if you have the facility to keep it a TOTAL SECRET from anybody.
HopeJ this helps a bit.....................J

Thanks guys. I only have 2 seeds (Auto Afhgan Mass) and growing inside is an issue because it's expensive, and I really am short on money. $100 to grow inside really isn't all that feasible right now. Would it be possible to just grow a little plant with a 120 W Sylvania spot-gro light? It's what I've got on hand, and I've heard people have successfully grown with something similar. I just want a personal plant for my friends and I, and quality honestly isn't that big of an issue.

You can get a Big Buddah LED 2nd or 3rd gen on ebay for ~$150, a bag of Miracle grow and it will work if you don't mind the aroma.
My temps go from 50's-80 depending on how cold it is outside. I'm using a space heater in an enclosed area with the LED and Miracle Grow. Just harvested one Betty Boo Lowryder last week, 3 more in the grow and I can't complain...they're growing like....weeds! Don't over think this...keep it simple.

I don't know if you read the above post but I mentioned that anything over $100 is out of reach ATM. Even $50 could present an issue. I wish I had more to spend but I really don't.

Ya might try doin' a little garage salin'...can usually find cheap light fixtures (old table lamps and such) buckets, cords etc....My grow room is full of stuff like that and it gets the job done for me!!!
Save up and buy a CFL or 2 a week for awhile and go for it. You might be surprised what you can get done .

I did read that but I thought of those that don't want to spend as opposed to those that can't spend. If it were me I would take $20 and use it to upgrade my resume on career builder so I could get a job or a better one quickly and actually I have done this. Alternatively, if you're intent on growing you should look on craigslist for a used AreoGarden. I have one and they work great and can be had for $50 or less especially now since AeroGarden just introduced their latest and greatest model. Just search youtube to see it in action if you're unfamiliar with them. They were initially marketed to grow herbs, flowers and veggies however, as you can imagine it didn't take long for everyone else to catch on to the fact that you can grow great "herb" of you choice. Hydroponics made easy!!!

Hey welcome fellow austinite!! Yea if your actually in austin meaning in the city I would NOT recommend growing outside, sure it can be done growing conditions are fine but you will get caught. I grew outdoors on my ranch in tx planting say october and they will do fine through the winter seeing as it refuses to snow! But yea harvest mid winter its possible but not a good idea within city limits
