Please help any advice appreciated

Hi i am a 17 year old male suffering from chronic pain. I was in a serious car accident last year when I was 16 where I suffered numerous traumatic injuries. The car smashed into a concrete barrier at around 65 mph. I had my seat belt on, but only the lap part. I put the part that goes over my chest behind me (little did I know worst decision of my life by far and always will be). I severely fractured my spine (L1-L2), my large intestine completely detached and needed to be re routed during emergency abdominal surgery in the ER. I also suffered from various tears to the colon and pankrius (don't know how to spell it). Three days after being in the ICU, I went in for an L1-L2 spinal fusion followed up with 2 1/2 weeks of hell recovering on the pediatrics floor of a high-end hospital, which I was thank god 10 mins away from or would of guaranteed died due to internal bleeding and many other things (told by hospital and doctors). Two rods and four LARGE screws were inserted in my skinny frame. There were points in the recovery process were I felt good and was thinking positively,eating decently, and so on. Now that I think about it all everyone has been saying ever since is think positive ( I mean STFU its so annoying). Anyway the point is I'm am now in so much pain it is ridiculous. It is to the point where I can not function. Why else would a 17 year old kid be writing something like this instead of playing video games. I've been in bed for the last three weeks other than doctors appointments. I can barely sleep. Wake up every couple hours screaming and squirming in aganozing pain. I have recent had a catscan and an MRI. According to the doctors, "Everything seems perfectly fine". (BS) I had an appointment with the doctor who did the surgery on my back yesterday. As i said he said everythings seems perfect. (in the MRI). When I asked to be put on narcotics (begged), he declined me rudely and repeatedly. The medicine I am on now does nothing at all. They are not narcotics just for nerves or something. My emotions got a hold of me and I walked out crying. How are you going to deny someone who has been through this much pain medicine (I understand side affects and other things). Clearly, you can see the problem. I start school in a week and I'm 80% sure my body is not going to let me attend. Last year was hell...half of it in a brace i nearly failed (actually did but worked out). There is so much pain in my back and my appetite has decreased.

marijuana seems to help. I was one of those kids who started smoking marijuana and ciggaretts at 14. I quit ciggarets at around 15 1/2 because I was heavily athletic and involved in sports and when freshman football came around I needed to be able to keep up in sprints. I quit marijuana for three to four months after the accident because I was depressed, housebound, and it probably would not have been to good for me. Now, certain marijuana seems to help me cope with the pain and increases my appetite and some seems to make me more aware of the pain and so on. As you would assume, I obviously get whatever is on the street. I am 17 and not eligible for a medical marijuana license (looked it up).

ANY ADVICE OR EVEN OPINION OR JUST REPLY WOULD BE APPRECIATED. ANYTHING FROM QUIT MARIJUANA TO MEDICAL MARIJUANA ACCEPTIONS TO GET A DIFFERENT DOCTOR. THANK YOU.

Some pediatricians will give recommendations. Claudia Jensen was a pediatrician and a well known mm activist. She would sometimes recommend for hyperactive as it helps them stay focused. Give it a try.

Welcome. Sorry to hear of your problems. Are you in an MMJ state?

Seems you need a bit more pain control. Doesn't surprise me, they shy from the narcotics. The tendency in the past 10 years was to treat long term pain with long acting pain meds, etc. Problem is, people were becoming 'prescription' addicts, faster than at any rate, in history (i am guessing, but fairly sure of it). Plus, they are most difficult to get off of.

Now, the trend is not give them and get patients on them off, or to a very low dose. It is a catch 22 of sorts.

MMJ is going to be the only salvation for the problem, in conjunction with proper low dose meds. imho..it needs legalized, if the Medical Community doesn't embrace it as, a 'preferred' treatment in conjunction with pills or not.

In your position, you should go see a psychiatrist. That person, is generally, much more compassionate and will work with you, on all your medications and generally; a decent one..will get you on the right pain control track. You sound like you are coping, well, mentally. But, this person is a most helpful M.D. in your situation.

man, sorry to hear your issues my friend. I was in a bad car accident when I was 17 too. I was in a comma for a month, when I woke up, my left side was paralyzed, had numerous operations on my lungs because my ribs broke into my lungs during the accident. I had to go thru therapy and shit to get some use of my left hand and foot back but its still not a 100%. I recommend talking to your parents about this issue not an online forum and see if they can help in any way. Maybe your dad or mom can become patients and get some bud for you thru safe access.
