NEW AND NEED INFO

Hi, i am new to growing, let me get to the story lol, i have had a plant given to me off a old next door friend what as moved, it is just over 2ft tall and i would like to see if i can make it flower, so i want out last night and got a cfl bulb and a florescent strip light what i have put it going down the plant and the cfl above, like i said i am new to this so don't no much but would like to. If any one can help i dont have the money to go out and buy proper equipment so will try doing it homemade or cheap as chips if any one can help ???

yo dude im in the same situation as yourself had no money so decided to go wit cfls. i built my whole grow box, light fixtures and bulbs for less than 100 euro and the results are amazing have a look at the pictures they are week four of flower today.the bulbs are 24watt=130watt x 5 bulbs =output 650watts and very cheap on eletric.. id be more than happy to help with any questions you mite have...[attachment=o286077][attachment=o286078][attachment=o286079][attachment=o286079]

Is it in soil? Either way, eventually you might need to look into nutrients.

hi thanks for getting back to me,:thumbsup: it looks like soil brown but don't know what he put it in as he paste it over to me and said have this if you wont ??. As for the cfls light how many would i need as i only have 1 that's 20w 90w brightness 1230 lumens ? that all its says on the box if that's any good ?? do i need a fan in with it and i water it evey time it feels dry is that right. i sound like a right di@k head asking all this but i guess i have to start somewhere lol

Hi, I'm new to this site but I got a lot of growing experience and I would be glad to give you a hand.

I got a few questions. How big a pot is it in? Do you know if it is a regular photo period plant or an auto flowering plant? If you don't know then you will just have to treat it with a 12/12 on and off schedule. It will wrk for both Autos and Photos. Usually with photos they will flower with a 20 on and 4 off light and dark schedule so they can be grown in a room where there in ambient light. Photo plants need their darkness to bloom. A closet will do. Did you get a timer with your lights? Is there any sign of hairs on the top of plants? Can you tell a male from a female?

hi thank you. Yes it is a female as it as little hairs the auto thing, i am not to sure about as he did have one out side and one inside, and don't know which one he gave me he was a old bloke, the pot is a medium size i would say, i was going to start doing the 12/12 lighting to night, it is in a closet with the light as for the timer i have will been turning them off by the wall how many lights do i need ??

Well the big thing is over it is a female so you will not be waisting your time.

Of course you don't have a light meter so you will just have to guess as to how much you need. The more the better up to a certain point. I use about 35 watts per sq. ft of grow area. With one plant in a pot you basically have about 2 sq. ft. You can get by with 70 watts of CFL. The same goes for reflecting the light sideways onto the plant. A sheep of white plastic just hanging around the edges of the plant really works well at reflecting the light onto the plant.

The more of the light that shines on the pot the better. I few simple improvements can be had by simple stuff. I cut a hole in the middle of tenfoil pie plates and reflect the light from the bulb downward simply by placing the bulb threw the pie plate before screwing it in the socket. Some method of raising and lowering the lights helps a lot like ropes hanging from a pulley so the bulbscan be raised up and down really helps a lot also. CFL lighting tends not to burn the top of the lants and can be kept down to 4 inches from the top of the plant. You mentioned earlier that you had two bulbs. I would be burning then both on at the same time.

Do you have a fan that you can move the air with? What are you going to feed the plant with? You will need some sort of fertilizer.

hi i have 3 cfl light as know i have 3 plants just got two more.I have just had the light off for 2hrs as i want out and forgot i pulled the plug out,and i have only just noticed the leaves seem abit droopy could i have the lights to close. As for plant food i will have to get some what is a cheap one to get i ant got a fan but can go out and pick one up
