so my take is that it ph's itself right ive been using it and havent checked my ph my budy got some and he said his ph was 8.4 idk i have myne in flower budding there covered in crystals and smell dank but the leafs are curly but ive seen other dwcs like that on here im about a month into flowering and they look healthy i just wonder if over looking the ph was a mistake they wouldnt grow if it was off this whole time would they?

Just because his was 8.4 doesn't mean yours is the same. You need to check your PH daily.
In my opion nothing is more important than PH in hydro. It should be between 5.2 and 5.8. Hold it low the first part of flower and then bring it up to finish. It's all about the nutrient uptake at dif times.
Check your PH and be sure.

So what is the optimum ph range for plants in soil? This is the first year that my plants outside in large pots have been kinda pale green from the get go and now starting to flower and all fan leaves turning yellow and falling off. I originally changed my planting mix so I am thinking the ph is off. I am going to buy a ph pen but what numbers should I look for?

for soil i like to aim at 7.0 and for hydro around 6. In soil it needs to be a little higher because you are much more dependent on the microbiology in the media. Mychorrizae and beneficial bacteria thrive in less acidic environments, and are crucial in the success in an organic garden.
PH is a HUUUUGGEEE deal when it comes to growing any plant, be it marijuana, peppers, or tomatoes. If the Ph is out of wack, nutrients can't be absorbed by the plant and they show defiency. Google search "marijuana ph graph". Soak in the knowledge....................

make sure the ph of all incoming water or nutrient solution is 7.0. This controls the PH is the Soil.

Sure they will grow, like snails crawl.
2 big things in DWC, water temp and PH.
The water temp is going to let O2 into the water, best at 68deg.
I dont care what you hear. You see people say " I keep the PH at 5.6 and my plants look like shit, why?". Well the big thing most people dont know that is even more important is the alkalinity of the water. If its off your ph is crapola. I giggle that one of the most important tools for a farmer is not widely used. Yes the alkalinity meter or test. Commercially we inject acid into water as its pumped to correct alkaline.
So 5.6 ph. Also check EC not PPM.
Of soil check runoff ph, for that matter any media you grow in check the runoff PH.

i agree with the above posts i myself had dwc and they need to be checked every day sometimes multiple times a day never trust a product to do what it says most of the time its an over exaggeration. think of it like a 2x4 there not really a 2x4 any more are they on the same sense other companys are allowed to get away with this over exaggeration. you should check it every day at least once personally i did mine 2 times a day

I think it's good practice to always check your pH, even if you're using pH Perfect 3-Part nutrients. The truth is that a lot of other things can go wrong when you're growing, so you want to make sure that you're still double checking - especially when you're in this sort of grow.
Good luck!

Thanks for those who replied to my question. I did go to a hydro store and buy just a little bottle of test kit for PH, it helped alot and my water was way too alkaline, so I then I just squirted a little fresh lemon juice into the water with the nutes (outside grow), checked it again and am trying to keep it around 7. Seemed to have helped them alot. Almost finished with the feeding of Botanicare Pro Bloom and getting ready to flush next week before harvest on the full moon.
