Hey i went out and got a 30x 21mm loupe. Was wondering if this is sufficient enough to view the trichomes during flowering to be able to determine how far the plant is coming?

No not really, get a cheapo 15$ 60-100x microscope, you will see whats really going on. In the jeweler loupe you can be tricked.
I have a 60x jewellers loupe and it works fine.
But it can strain the eyes a little, I invested $40 in a 400x USB microscope on eBay.
I like to personally use a camera/cameraphone attached to the loupe, and then take pictures of the trichomes so I don't have to hold steady for like 10 minutes trying to get a good look on the trichomes. With the camera, I take a picture, observe, and take another one if necessary, it's a beautiful method haha
