Noob questions w/pics

This is my first grow and I've stumbled a bit with nutrients and topping. I'm not overly concerned with the nutrient aspect, I think I will find the "sweet spot" without endless posts, or worse, death to my babies! I did recently attempted to "top" the plants, a seemingly simple technique that I screwed up...I think. Here are some pics of the topped plants the day I topped them and 5 days later. Is this normal? Did I screw it up?

Here is a pic of my plants 2 weeks into veg, 5 days after I "topped" them. They are growing like crazy, literally, big leaves, small leaves, some point up, some point down, idk if this is normal.
