Basic light socket to HID conversion: will it work?
Hey guys I'd like to know if I purchased a converter that changes a regular light socket into an adapter that holds a HID bulb, could it potentionally work to keep my plants healthy?
Bulb: LU70/MED by SYLVANIA
Converter: Satco 92-400 - Medium To Candelabra Reducer Socket
Thanks,

If you then use a 70Watt ballast to drive it, then yes.
HPS lamps require a ballast to limit the current flow through them.
Google HPS ballasts.
Should you try to just plug it directly into a wall socket, you may not enjoy the result. :(
More clearly. Do NOT do dat!

Weezard is right. You cannot use a regular household socket (even w/ a converter) into a HID socket. The rating of the electrical current at which the gas inside the bulb is ignited is completely different than the voltage rating required to fire your standard household bulbs.
Do a lil more research. If you are really wanting a cheap HID light, go to Loews or Home Depot and buy an HID Security light. About $70 to $80. Then you just wire that to an extension cord, plug-in, and grow
