Plants use of reflected lighting
I was curious about whether or not plants can use any light that would be reflected from the underside of the plant. For example if I had sort of a reflective bowl under a plant to catch light from the sides and bounce it back up, can the plant use any of that light? I know that the tops of leaves is how it gathers light normally. I just wonder because I can easily do this without a whole lot of extra work and I just wanna know if there would be any benefit to that or not. My guess is no but I might as well ask.

I don't have my book right now but I remember reading in Jorge Cervantes book that if you have light directed at the underneath of the plant you will actually hurt it. The bottom of the leaves can't use the light so they just get burned. Sorry I don't have my reference but I DO remember reading that cause I was wondering the same thing. :)

When lights are on.. The whole plant goes through,photosythesis... No matter if the lower leaves and budsites are being beamed on..If you spread panda film on the floor, white side up.. Then they will benefit by bulking up somewhat.. But your right about the tops, near the reflector itself, benefits the most... There is no such thing as too much light.. But... There is such a thing as not enough! Glad you asked!

I'm moving to outside grow and I'm going to move my box out there. It's reflective interior will help gather the sun light and I can put a shade cloth over it if the sun is too much, and it will protect them from winds...
It's just three sides and no top.
My theory anyway. I always was working on the assumption that I needed all the reflectivity I could get when growing in the box. All interior surfaces were reflective material and I think it help with the growth. I only use T5 so I need all the help I can get.
