A Drug Test Story, To Be Continued...

I had been interviewing for this job for about a month. I get a call, and they offered me the position, I talked with them a lot and went back and forth discussing benefits etc. Nobody ever mentioned taking a drug test, I figured I was in the clear (I know it sounds stupid now). I took 1 1/2 hits of pot the night before I started, and had been clean for at least 5 weeks before that, but I was cleaning out my drawers and found a little bud. I was so stressed out from the interview process & felt like I had to smoke.

I show up for work the next day. My supervisor is taking me around to meet everyone, and we go to HR and she says "oh, and we still have to have him go do his drug testing". I'm sure I turned bright red as soon as she said that, luckily it was a holiday and she thought they would be closed! All the rest of the day they were ordering business cards for me & stuff, all the while I'm wondering if I'm going to pass the test. It's a terrible feeling. I managed to put off the test for 2 days, until Wednesday.

I totally freaked the first day and started guzzling water immediately, it's my first drug test ever so I bought Clear Flush in a panic. The next two days I drank about 3 gallons of water, and each night I took a home test and tested negative both times. I drank the Clear Flush the morning of the test at 7 am, drank the recommended 16oz of water and went to work for a little bit before going to the doctor to piss. At this point it had been about 60 hours since I had smoked. I took the test, my pee was a nice shade of yellow. The test is a Medtox 88537 10 panel test. Later that evening at home my urine was now as crystal clear as I've ever seen it.

That gets me up to now, I've been reading everything on the internet, driving myself nuts about this and realizing all the mistakes I made. I can't do anything about it now, but the waiting is hell. I'm more paranoid now than when I was a heavy smoker, maybe a year ago (it's a really really good job & I want it!). Anyway, thanks for reading and hopefully I come out ok. Even if something goes wrong, it will be interesting because they never should have hired me without testing me first, right? Oops!

You may get lucky with just a bud and with dillution it may pass. Always assume a new employer is going to test you these days.
As long as its not a safety sensitive position they can drug test you when ever they feel like it. I even had an employer for truck driving that forgot to test me for 6 months.lol They could have got into a lot of trouble.

It's been at least 72 hours now and I hear that no news is good news, I also heard from the HR person late in the day Friday and she didn't mention anything. I also finally found a "Medtox 10 panel sample report" that was very reassuring (I didn't know what to search for) that showed the cutoffs for the test were the same as my home tests that I took. I suppose if I make it through the day on Monday I'm 100% safe, knock on wood. The lady at the doctors office said the results would be faxed within 48-72 hours. I never want to go through this again! I thought I should share so people don't make the same assumptions I made.
