Harvesting question

Everything i read sais that when you hang your bud its done when you can " SNAP" the stem and it break but my problem is i have mine drying in 72 degree room in the dark with 40% humidity
and when i touch my buds they feel crunchie or really dry but the stem just kinda bends is this normal am i doing something wrong can someone please help..........my last batch did the same my buds seemed really dry so when i started curing it i stuck a couple leaves off the plant in the jar with it for a few days and made them a little less dry any help would be appreciated.......

IMO if the stem snaps when you are drying, its over dried. I hang mine till the buds get a little crispy then they go into brown paper bags for a day or so. This will bring more of the moisture out of the center of the bud. From there i place them into curing jars with a small hygrometer. If the RH is over 70 ill place back in the bag for another day. Once the humidity gets between 60-65 youre pretty much safe on any chance of mold and then you can let it get a good cure. Thats just a quick way that i do it. Its been working great for me and with the hygrometer, itll take all the guess work out of it.

That stem 'snapping thing' is misleading. The stem has too much fiber in it; to 'snap'...IMO.

I dry by hanging the whole plant. Sometimes 10 days is enough. Sometimes 14 days is not enough.

(if I get the 'hay' smell?...I dry until that smell is gone, no matter how long it takes)

What causes the hay like smell? so your saying just hang it til it feels just a little bit crispy?

The hanging until the branch can snap method works. you just have to jar them up for a while and allow the moisture to evenly distribute throughout the bud.
Any method can lead to over drying wether its a bag or hanging. the trick is practice.

next time begin jaring your buds a little earlier. the good news is once you get the hang of it you will never forget how to do it.

many factors play into drying. not all the bud is going to dry at the same time. smaller ones first, larger ones later. temp and humidity are a big part of it.
If you have huge buds, keep the humidity a little lower.
cooler temps are best for drying. like 67-72.
