Sick clones - what do you think? (with pics!)

Hey guys,

This is my first time growing this strain, Blue Sage (Blueberry X SAGE). I'm a very experience grower in soil, and have had 1 previous successful grow in this DWC system.

The clones have been in the system for 5 days. They were perfectly healthy and happy looking before I placed them in their new home, I still have 1 clone from the same batch under fluro's and it is still VERY healthy (not a single sick leaf on it).

These clones look sad, their growth is very slow and their leaves are curling under. They have dead necrotic patches at the base and middle of the leaves, new growth is stunted and burnt at the tips.

I suspect nutrient burn, as the clones were fine until placed in the system... But the symptoms dont look like any nutrient burn I've ever seen! They are in a 50% strength nutrient solution but with 100% strength additives (details below).

System details:

250w MH bulb in cool tube, light 18/6, 10" above clones
DWC with 14 gallon reservoir, 3" net pots, clones in rockwool rooted in hydroton rocks. Water level at the base of the net pots for now.
Rena 400 air pump and 2x air discs

In my 14 gallon reservoir I'm running:

50% strength lucas formula:
- 56ml Micro (4ml/gal)
- 112ml Bloom (8ml/gal)

Additives (All full strength doses):
- 14ml Floralicious Plus (1ml/gal)
- 70ml CalMag (5ml/gal)
- 99ml Cannazyme (Enzyme additive, recommended dosage strength)

PH: 5.8
PPM: 658

I'm new to the DWC... Mine is a bucket with a net pot and hydroton. I started my clone out with plain ph'd water.Then gradually moved the mix up to 1/4 strength. Everytime I cleaned the res. I would add a 1/4 more. I would dump the res and start with ph'd water.. It'll flush itself and start to come back around,in a week or so you should see a noticable difference.

Did you rinse the hydroton? Rockwool works different when transplanted into soil. Versus rockwool and hydroton.. The rockwool is absorbing the nutes as it drips and holding them at the roots,not letting it pass through back to the res.

In soil with rockwool... The soil absorbs the nutes from the cube. No worries after the base of the stalk has broken the cube apart. That takes some serious growth..

My guess is they were rooted clones before putting into system, if not IMO they should have been. To me from reading and looking at pics I think you nuted them to soon.

young clones should not recieve full measure. this person obviously got overzealous and should rinse with 5.8 water. keep that going until things start looking up. then gradually add in nutes. cal/mag isnt really necessary unless your using ro water. blues tend to be a little more diificult to grow and have a twisted trait in its leaves and sativas can be difficult as well. use basic nutes and quit all the fancy glitz and glamour.

no Doubt with the Cal/Mag. If you are using plain tap water you dont really wanna play with Cal/Mag as your tap has enough Calcium and Mag (not gonna try to spell that :) ) and u will end up ODing the poor things .................................. unfortunately speaking from experience .......... TWICE!!!!!!

How many plants are in that res?? It looks like you have all your plants sitting in 1 tote together. thats not really a good idea as all roots are going to entangle each other and if you run into with one plant you most likely will have the same problem with them all. Lowes sells their own store brand Grey buckets for like $2 each. get those and some Bucket Baskets and seperate them before they get big, if their health turns around that is :( . Couple of dual outlet aquarium pumps from Walmart along with air tube (Black preferably but clear will work) and enough airstones to do 2 per bucket. Yes the lil round stones will work and grab a few packs of T's also. Thats all you need to seperate them and I'm sure I'm not the only one that will say this. :wtf:

i also forgot to mention, if they are coming straight out of the humididty chamber you will see them die like that. keep them humid. looking again im going to say your humidity is low plus nute issues.

I've been taught that calmag can be replaced with molassas. But use it a little later in flower.:thumbsup:

But will molasses do the same in hydro as it does in soil.... IDK.... I've heard about the molasses replacing cal-mag in soil applications but not sure I've read them for hydro....(doesn't mean it didn't happen)....

Just saying that I'd be interested in knowing if molasses did function the same as cal-mag in hydro.... I for one won't be the one to try it but I'd be interested in hearing from someone who has....

I'm not using it in the DWC,but I am in my soil containers. If you'll notice when you mix it in a gallon of water. See how thick it is? If the water has a heater in it to keep the sugars disolved.Then I would say you could use it in hydro. Since I'm so new to the hydro,I'm just takin' baby steps as to not screw up! Cause you can bet your ass that it's gonna be very difficult to turn it around in hydro. Soil is just so much more forgiving..

Even when I mix it for soil,I heat my gallon of water,double boiler style. Just to bring the temp up some. Never heard of anyone doin' this procedure.. It works,though.. Just get it warm.. Then mix. Let it sit for a few mins. and the plants love the warmth. It's a slight warmth.. Not hot.
