Lighting quesgtion for beginner
hello ive been readin around and have to come to the thought that do you need to use different lights for germinating, growing and budding? could someone please give me any information on what you have to do about lights through the growing cycle and what lights are best and is there any light you can use all the way through and not have any disbenefit? thank :D

Yes, the best light for all stages of growth is one that allows spectral control.
It's best to have some control over the red:blue ratio throughout their life.
It allows you to, (within strain limits), control the morphology of your girls
I use just 2 narrow band colors during veg., 460nm. blue and 630nm. red.
I control the R:B ratio with a dimmer.
For seedlings, I run the blue leds full-on which keeps the internodes short and the plants squat enough for cabinet grows.
When they start to alternate the stems, I cut back on the blue and move the light a little closer.
That "stretches" out the main cola sites and gets them ready to flower.
For indoor flowering, I bring the blue back up and add some 660nm. red for fat, tight, buds.
Here's a good tip for ya:
With just 2 colors, they get absolutely no UV.
That is a major plus!
Without attrition, due to UV damage, they just keep piling up trichs throughout the flower stage.
The caps ripen, (turn cloudy), normally, but do not burn off.
A week before harvest, you can hit them with some UVb if you wish, but I found no clear benefit from doing so.
Actually, I have side by side proof that UV is NOT needed to produce THC!
That, is an old wives tale.
Grew some one-hit monsters with zero UV.
Now I filter out the UV for my greenhouse girls.
If someone wants to pay for a THC percentage lab test, to compare it with "sunburnt weed, I'm game.
But bubble-bag extraction says 11% resin caps by weight.
And the capitate glands are not the only parts with THC, yah?
And the bio assay says that resin is, um, chock-full of THC.:smokin:
Well, you did ask. :D

thanks for the reply man, is there any, cheap/tidy way of doing this, like i want my grow box to look pretty clean and tidy not having stuff popping out from allover the place, is there any light holders that would hold both bulbs? and if so how much would a complete vegging through to harvest light kit cost in £ ? thanks. :d

Sup bro, i been growen for a few years now and i use my T5 fluro fixture for my seedlings/cuttings for germ an early veg then move them to either my 400w or 1000w Metal Halide for a few weeks of veg then switch the 400 an 1000 to my High preasure sodium bulbs and i have never had a problem yet.. I suppose the best all around lighting for all the stages would probs be led due to the fact that they dont generate nearly as much heat as high intensity but still put out decent amount of light/lumes.. Only down side is LED is VERY exspenvie especially for a fixture equviliant to say a 1000w hight intensity setup ya no..
