Can an experienced hydro grower answer some questions for me? Thanks in advance.

This is my first post.

I had some questions I can't seem to find answers for related to hydroponics.

1. The baskets used for growing, sorry I don't know the correct name for them, the "pots" if you will. My question is, do they need to be larger than 6" for a mature plant? I can only seem to find 2", 4" and 6". It seems like its not large enough for a mature plant. Maybe I'm wrong.

2. The solution that the roots sit in, how often do you have to change that?

3. It seems in my opinion when you lift the top off the homemade hydro system, that the plants would topple over. Do the roots really bond that well to the rock substance to keep the plants from falling over?

Thanks in advance. I'm a first timer here. I've grown with soil, and this will be my first attempt with a hydro system. I'm doing the DIY style with the tote box and six pots. Again, if you answer my questions, thank you.

1) Unless you are using 5 gal buckets the 6" is prob what your gonna find. When using the 5 gal buckets the "Bucket Basket" can go up to 10" I know for sure but thought I saw 12" at one time. Size of the basket pertains to how tall your gonna grow.
2)Weekly is what I always did but you can go by the process of when your topoff amounts equal what your res started at.
3)You should not really ever have to lift the lid completely off if all goes right. Most of the weight of the plant is in the water below your Media.

So, yes or no, is a 6" hydro net pot big enough for a mature plant?

sure it is. Just not 6ft tall
