Failed test after 70 days; any advice please? Kinda shocked
Hello everyone, I know this question is redundant... but I need a little help please.
I'm a 42 year year old happily married woman, NO KIDS (YESSSS!) weigh about 215, 5' 4" and I have been going to pain management for about 4 years because I have 2 prolapsed (burst and leaking) lumbar (lower back discs), a 4 inch cyst growing ON my spinal cord in my middle back, which is slowly leading to paralysis, and degenerative disc disease in my neck that makes my hands numb and causes me to drop things a lot. I'm on a lot of heavy narcotics, which I don't feel I need to go into details here about, lol, and also, on the side, I've been toking for 18 years. (I do not smoke cigarettes, never have). I started when I was in my 20's, a young wild adult living the fun life in New Orleans, and I just never stopped.
I really hurt my back about 10 years ago, with my first bulging disc in my lower back. That one turned into two, until eventually, while cave exploring one vacation, those 2 discs ruptured and I was in the most incredible pain I'd ever felt in my life. I started smoking a lot heavier then mainly because I wasn't able to do much else. I cannot see to drive (because I am also legally blind and was determined to be disabled since birth from it), so I receive a disability check. Basically, I sit at home all day, smoke, and get really close to my PC screen to see it. My PC has been my lifesaver over the years.
This past November, they found the cyst growing on my spine and the disease in my neck and things just went from worse to, well, worse... long sob story, eh? So I sat around, put on a LOT of weight, smoking made me so hungry, plus the depression. You know how it is? I started to smoke a LOT, 2.5oz a month. Wake n' bake till bed. Well, in the 4 years I've been going to this same pain management doctor, he had never drug tested me. A friend, who had been going there for 8 years never got drug tested either.
Then, recently, FL came out with a new law, and blam! Drug test! Which of course, I failed, LOL. My doctor, bless his heart, gave me another chance. So I finished up what smoke I had, I wasn't gonna toss it out (!!!) and after being clean for 44 days, I failed his second test. He said he could no longer risk his license for me. I said I understood.
So I went online and ordered me a various assortment of different drug tests; a couple of 10 panel cups to pee into, and some other kind that look like a pregnancy test that only test for THC and a couple of others that test for THC and Cocaine (I don't use coke, but the test was cheap enough, and I wanted an assortment from different companies, to make sure I was getting accurate results).
On day 70 of being clean, and after taking GoldenSeal (recommended with a wink by my primary physician when I told him what was going on) I failed one of the tests I bought. The test that just checks for THC. 70 days? I know I must have a slow metabolism, cause I sit around a lot, and I'm in a lot of pain and cannot exercise, AND I am overweight, but 70 days? My pain management doctor has taken sympathy on me and said he'd give me ONE more chance and my appointment with him is on the 20th, just a little over a week away, on a Monday. That will be day 80. I plan to take another one of my tests the day before, and if I fail it, I will push the appt. back, claiming my upcoming bladder surgery has caused me complications, or something. I don't know what else to do.
Is there anything I can do?? Also, see, I've been having problems with my bladder--problems peeing. I'm so embarrassed to be so honest and open about this, but I'm having a LOT of trouble getting my stream to start. Sometimes I sit there for nearly 20 minutes before any pee comes out. I can be feeling like I'm about to burst, and still, nothing happens. Not even a dribble, it takes a long time!
Over the past 2 months, since I quit smoking, I've been drinking tons of water, trying to flush my system and to help my bladder, plus I've been taking cranberry supplements. This Thursday I'm having surgery on my bladder, as an ultrasound found something growing in there and blood, and my Urologist said he is going to perhaps try to dialate my urethra. He said it could be anything, a kink, a fold of skin, something growing in there, cancer, he won't know until he puts the scope in and looks. Anyhow, that is THIS Thursday and I was honest with him and asked him if perhaps THIS is why my test came out positive for THC, but he said No, most likely not. I hated to have to even ask him, but I was thinking maybe my problem peeing was causing my body to not let the THC out also. He said most likely not.
Any ideas on what I can do to help myself out? I have a few THC tests left and I have not tried the 10 panel cup to pee in yet--- I'm saving that one up, can't wait to see if it picks up on all of the narcotics I take, and the Ambien, the valium, the anti-depressants and perhaps the 'adulterants' such as the Goldenseal. I certainly don't want to get one of those bottles of stuff you drink, because as I understand it, it would also remove the pain meds I take, and my doctor would know right away. I'd be busted for sure.
Any help, thoughts, ideas, greatly appreciated!! Thanks so much for reading my story and for any advice. ~Molly

It must be understood that THC is not water soluble unlike other types of drugs. Therefore, drinking water days or weeks before a U/A is of no help. THC is stored in the fat cells and is not affected by drinking copius amounts of water. THC remains stored in the fat cells until the fat cells are burned for energy. When fat cells burn, the THC metabolites are released back into the bloodstream. From there, the kidneys filter the THC metabolites and deposits them into the bladder. This is the main reason why THC carries a longer detection period than other types of drugs.
Drinking water/fluids is only good on the day of the U/A. Thats because the water consumption temporarily dilutes the THCA concentration that is present in the bladder. It doesnt eliminate THCA but "thins out" the THCA concentration to where a urine sample registers below the cutoff thresholds of the drug screen (providing that the concentration is not too high). Again the dilution phenomena is only temporary - once all of the fluids ingested had all been urinated out, the bladder is replenished with fresh THCA-laden urine by the kidneys and thus, the donor would resume testing positive for THC.
Goldenseal is an old myth. It does nothing to rid the body of THC. There are many people who have taken goldenseal and passed a U/A. The thing is these people wrongly credit the goldenseal when the real hero was the copius amounts of water theyve drank with the goldenseal, which diluted the THCA concentration to where the urine sample registered a negative. These people wouldve passed anyway just on the water-loading alone and without the goldenseal to go with it.
All "detox" products work on the principle of dilution (that is, when they do work at all). That means they "work" because of the water that youre required by the instructions to drink with them. They do not rid the body of THC, as the sales pitches would like the consumer to believe. In short, they are a big scam to capitalize on the so-called "war on drugs" by preying upon the uninformed and credulous and taking their hard-earned cash. You can spend up to $200 on a magic elixir and accomplish nothing different than what can be accomplished using just water and vitamin B2.
Its not all uncommon for longtime daily users to test positive for 60 days or longer. Theres actually one report of a person that tested positive at 105 days of abstination. Of course, this person was a longtime heavy smoker that tipped the scales on the wrong side of 375 pounds and indulged in zero physical activity.
For P/M patients, the best thing to do is avoid cannabis entirely if faced with routine drug testing (until the program is completed).

Thank you for all of that info, Burnt Toast! I have read a lot of your posts and you seem to be very knowledgeable about all of this.
One more question, since apparently I need to burn off some fat cells, what is your take on a low carb diet, such as the South Beach Diet, where you pretty much eat NO sugar, not even in fruit, for the first 2 weeks, (than you are allowed either a fruit or a 'good' carb, such as oatmeal) and this low carbing literally forces your body to burn fat for fuel, since it is not getting any sugars for fuel. Do you think this might help? BTW, I did the SBD diet a few years ago, and dropped 68 lbs in 6 months. It was amazing, and I felt great, until I started sneaking in a piece of bread or a candy bar here and there, and then it was full blown back to eating junk, LOL.
Do you think a low carb diet can help me out? Thanks for your help and words of wisdom! I have no choice but to be on pain mgmt for the rest of my life, as I am facing a multi level spinal fusion, plus this cyst will have to be dealt with at some point, and then the problems in my neck, so it looks like me and mary will never be together again. :( Bummer....

I'm sorry for you. you obviously gained way to much weight which the reason for your back problems im guessing? It sounds like being overweight is the reason for all your problems. THC stays in fat cells and being 5'4 215 means you have plenty of storage. im a 6' tall male who weighs 190. because your so inactive you have no muscle to help support your back while it holds up all that fat once in a while, when you decide to stand up....i understand that you have back pain now and its to late to go back in time and work out and keep in shape so that your spinal disc wouldnt rupture under so much weight....but you should be able to stay on a diet without junk food! i can't believe that you didnt have the motivation to stay on the damn diet after all that you have been through, that blows my mind. now you have another chemical addiction to junk food that you must get over...everytime you eat junk food your brain releases a chemical that brings you pleasure. if you dont get over this and get back on a diet so that you can get to a weight that will allow you to do minimal excercising and self therapy then you aree in serious trouble. your looking at heart failure lady. do you really want someone to find you dead in a chair with a bag of chips on your stomach? and have everyone watch as 4 men load you into a body bag? get it together women....sorry for the tough love...get bettter

70 days and you didnt pass the test
You are a bigger person with high body fat content ...thc stores in fat tissues....skinny people will test clear faster.....sorry to be blunt
You are probably looking at 90-100 days if you were a normal everyday smoker

Fat-burning activities are helpful if a person has weeks to prepare for a THC urine test. However, if a person is still testing positive on the home test, and the scheduled U/A is 3 days or less away, then all fat-burning activities should be curtailed and the person should be dormant as possible. That way s/he wont be releasing a bunch of THCA into the bloodstream, which will end up in the urine to be detected.

Go to a head shop like 'High Times', 'ZigZag', "Bizarre Bazaar' and straight up ask the cashier: "I need to pass a drug test"... They are always ready to provide an assortment of remedies. Ive even asked at GNC stores and they are ready with an answer, dont worry ur never the first haha.
*When I was a 'few times a week smoker', I got offered a job one morning on the spot, that wanted me to drug test later that afternoon. Now I had just smoked blunts the previous day. I told him I was busy later, but free tomorrow. I went to GNC and was recommended a big red-labeled detox drink (60$).
>>>Directions:
Last smoke has to be 48hours before test. (I went Exactly 48 hours from blunt in mouth to piss in cup)
Chug detox 2 hours before test.
Try to urinate a few times before going to the test.
Diluted my urine enough and I passed
*Now more recently an 'all the time smoker' :D I had a 17$ an hour job want me to drug test. Went to High Times and was given a small bottle(size of Xtra small elmer glue bottle) of synthetic piss (40$).
>>>Directions:
Keep the bottle next to hip (tight underwear) where it can absorb body heat (30mins should be good).
Also Comes with a 3in by 3in thin adhesive heating pad that activates when opened. Stopped at a gas station next to the clinic, stuck the pad to the bottle, back in underwear, and went to the clinic.
Passed:thumbsup:

Did you not read Mollys first post? Shes in pain management and is tested regularly by her doctor to see that she is indeed taking her scripted meds in addition to not using illicit substances. Using synthetic or those overpriced bottled diluters is not a smart idea if youre on P/M.

Akiller, I appreciate the tough love, and I know all about the chemicals released into the brain when junk foods are ingested. I know you are so right. Yes, I have yet another addiction to get over. FOOD, junk food, the bad carbs. Today I started cutting out the sugar. I am going to try really hard. I did it before, I can do it again. I was able to push my appointment back until 2.5 weeks away, so I've got a little time left..... please pray for me!!
One good note though--about my heart: I was just in the hospital with arrythmia, (sorry, spelled it wrong) an irregular heartbeat, because my potassium level dropped, even though I eat a lot of potatoes and bananas and apricots, things full of potassium. The problem is that my blood pressure medicine is leeching the K out of my system, and when it drops below 3.0, I have an irregular heartbeat, causing crushing chest pain. I had to call 911 last month and I ended up having all kinds of heart tests, including a chemical stress test, a bubble EKG and a couple of other ECG's. The good news is that my heart is OK!! Now we are working to keep my K levels up. I'm on prescription K. I was just in the hospital Thursday for bladder surgery and my K level was 3.2. It is supposed to be normally for a human 3.5 - 5.0.
So I appreciate the tough love. I'm cutting out all sugars starting today, including breads, rices, potatoes, fruits, everything. Only eating meats, proteins, eggs, cheese, yogurts, dairy. I can do this! And hopefully I'll be okay.
Thank you also, to the rest of you, except for SmokeMyPiece, who didn't apparently read my post. :wtf: Thanks for that rebuttal, BurntToast! Thank you all for the advice. I'll let you know how things turn out. Wish me luck.....

if your serious about weightloss, and eating healthy.. you have to taper your self off of the junk..
If you quit all at once it is guaranteed that you will have a serious recourse and end up gaining more weight. Carbs are actually a good source of energy, its more an amount game than anything. Less calories in than going out=weightloss
Fruits, though better for ya are pretty sugary :P yougurts goood.
zero carb diets are hard on your heart..
Take Omega 3 fish oil if you don't already... its good for you :)
Reward yourself occasionally :) junk every now and again won't hurt you
