Baby dro bag-seed + cfls + miracle grow
I've been lurking around these forums for awhile... Learned a lot of things. I've started my first grow and want to share my experience.
I do not have the best equipment nor seeds. It's the best I can do and I've a righteous motivation to grow. I've already made a few mistakes, and it's only the fourth day.
Feel free to comment on anything I write. I love the criticism and advice online communities give.
I'll post pictures as soon as there is anything to show.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day 1:
I stole a Tupperware plastic container from the pantry and laid a cut-out square of paper towel in the center. I then poured an amount of water from a bottle of water into the bottom of the container as to thoroughly dampen the paper towel. I then laid seventeen(17) cannabis seeds onto the paper towel, keeping a roughly equal amount of space in between. I then placed another paper towel onto the seeds in the bottom of the container. Then I poured more water onto the mix until the paper towels were both wet and the seeds were visible through the top. I put the lid onto the Tupperware container and put the container into a room. I was intending to keep the room at 23.9 degrees(75 F). However, my heater malfunctioned and the temperature reached 5 degrees(41 F) overnight. I fear this will impede their progress.
Day 2:
I lifted the top paper towel to examine the seeds. They had not sprouted yet. I added a little more water to be sure there was enough. The air in the container smelled weird, perhaps like old potato chips. I fixed the problem with my heater. I kept the container at 26.6(80 F) for the next night and day.
Day 3:
I checked the seeds at noon. Only 33 hours after I had planted them. The seeds had sprouted their tap-roots. However, I didn't think they were long enough to transplant into soil. 10 millimeters was the length I was waiting for. Later that night(23:00), which was much later than I'd hoped, I planted them. I filled a plastic 532ml Cup with miracle grow soil, cut four vertical slits in the bottom with a knife, then placed a seed in the soil root down. I covered it gently with soil then watered. I repeated this nine(9) times. The other eight(8) seeds had not sprouted long enough tap-roots; rest in peace. The water boiled up the soil and possibly disrupted the placement of the seed. Through further research I've determined this was not the best method. I should have watered the soil before planting the seed. Hopefully this will not hinder their progress. I also placed sandwich bags over the cups to maintain a high humidity.
Day 4:
In the morning I checked the cups. Only one of the bags had moisture bubbles on the top. They have not sprouted out of the soil yet. I don't expect them to for at least a few more days. I watered and labeled one plant. Each of the nine plants will have its own number identifier by the end of the day. I watered all of the plants excessively in the hope that this will make up for my transplanting mistake. I checked the drainage on the cups, they seemed heavy, but no water was coming out of the slits I'd cut. I pushed in on the plastic on one side of the slit. Water then started dripping out. It thought it might cause the seeds to drown and rot if there was poor drainage, so I deemed it necessary to rip my slits into triangular holes. I replaced the sandwich bags over the cups, but this time twisting the plastic as to ensure an air-tight fit to hold in the moisture. The seed in cup two was exposed out of the dirt with its root down in the dirt. I touched it and felt like it was gripping the dirt, thus giving me hope for the survival of the others. I covered it with a thin coat of soil.

Should I post everyday or wait a few then post them all?

It's a weed.
You did good on cracking the seeds,....
10mm, or 3/8" is a bit long of a tap root to be messing around with, that's the plants ONLY root, if it breaks off, it won't grow another. Should have gone into the soil with only a couple mm of root as far as I know, and only about 5mm down from the top of the soil.
My last run of seeds that i cracked in towels took about a week to break the surface of the soil after I planted them.
Patience, it's easy to over think this and kill your plants with love.
Try to remember,.... ITS A F'N WEED!!!! MJ will take a serious ass kicking and come back to thrive! I don't condone abusing your plants, (much) just remember it is a hardy plant that wants to live, and will do so thru some really F'd up shit.

so what the hell is "baby dro bagseed"?
i suggest you do a little more reading and research before you start dabbling with growing marijuana.

canniwhatsis: Haha, thanks guy. I needed to hear that. I have been thinking way too much. Next time I crack seeds I'll plant some at 3mm and some at 10mm and watch for the difference. I can see how you would be right, the seed only has a certain amount of stored energy, why waste it on unnecessary root length? I was going off of this page: Marijuana Grow Guide | Germination Stage
Thanks for the advice.
Drudown11:
"Baby dro" is a term I've seen used to describe weed that is above "mids" but below "dro" or dank. I believe there is an entry in the urban dictionary. It's a slang word, and I guess it's not universal. However, a Google search generally agrees with my definition. Look it up.
Anyway, to further explain myself, I did not feel comfortable buying seeds on the Internet. I also did not want to use seeds from a very low quality product, but the highest quality I could find was grown sinsemilla. Therefore, I used baby dro, which was the highest quality that still had some seeds.
I'll certainly do more research. I'm always reading. I didn't take the decision to grow lightly; if I didn't have to grow I wouldn't. Thanks for your suggestion.

Day 5:
I did not water in the morning. The power went out due to high winds. This is the second time the heater was out of operation. This time, however, the temperature only got down to 13 degrees(55 F). Regardless, when I checked them they had sprouted. I did not expect them to break the surface for another day or so. Number three and five are already three inches tall. I started the lights. Three 6500k 1800 lumen clfs and one 2700k 1800 lumen clf are hanging above the plants about 10 inches. I will lower them in the morning. I just want to make sure they get their second set of leaves out first. The lights are set on a mechanical timer set to turn on at 06:00 and turn off at 24:00. I watered the cups lightly, even though I probably didn't have to.

Day 6:
I lowered the lights in the morning. In the afternoon I watered the ones whose soil seems dry. They have really opened up compared to last night. They are starting to look like plants. They have their first set of ??true leaves? very pronounced. Cup number three looks especially healthy. Side-note: I found one of the seeds that did not germinate originally, it had sprouted a root, but it was all dried up. I dunked it in a cup of water and within seconds it looked healthy. It's interesting, but I didn't plant it, it's probably to far behind now. Plus, I'm not going to be able to grow this many as it is. Eventually it's going to get down to one or two full-sized plants. Below is a close-up of number three:

What do you think caused it?
I keep the room at 70 degrees at all times, day and night. Could that cause this problem? I have my cfls at 5 inches above the plants. Is that too far? Is this a sign of overwatering?

over watering could be the problem..i would wait til somebody more experienced will jumpo along and help you out=) good luck with your grow anyways........

I lowered the lights a little and didn't water them for two days. Now the three seedlings that were leaning have a bend at the top pointing toward the light. They aren't resting on the side of the cup. They are looking good. All of them have two sets of leaves now.

Day 42:
I've killed all but the strongest 3 plants. I transplanted two into five gallon buckets. and another one is outside. One is doing well, it's developed into a nice little baby indica bush. ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
The other one isn't doing as hot, if someone would take a look and let me know their opinion on what I am doing wrong that's be great. ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting
