Hay smell while curing?

I am trying to get rid of that hay smell that sometimes accompanies drying buds. I am following the curing process that I have read from many websites...hang upside down in a dark place for 2 weeks with lots of ventilation, when the stems start 2 "snap" when I bend them I take the plant down and trim fan leaves and place buds in a paper bag for a few days, opening a couple times a day for proper ventilation, finally placing them in a jar for 2 weeks opening the jar a couple times a day to vent....well I have nearly completed the entire process barring about 3 days and have a light hay smell that is not desirable...what can or should I do?

Also, I was wondering for future reference what would happen if I let the buds dry in a paper bag? Or even laid them out on some cardboard untill they are COMPLETELY dry skipping the jar process, would I still end up with a hay smell? The reason I ask is because before I put the buds in the jar they had no type of hay smell whatsoever.

It is the chlorophyll you smell and until it all converts it will smell like that. Stick in the jar closed for another week and see if it is better. Yes, you can throw them in boxes or bags in a single layer, lay them on shelves made of screened substance, use a collander, upside down is just a convenience thing, I cut all the buds off and lay them in a wire basket thing, one layer. Set until color turns, then to smaller basket with greater airflow for another week, then the jar for a week. Then I see what it needs, further drying or curing.

Ok so I have seen this problem more than once I don't know the best way but I NEVER use Paper Bags in drying and I NEVER have Hay weed. This is all I do.
1. Remove ALL Fan leaves to dramatically decrease the photosynthesis of the plant and slow chlorophyllic growth.
2.Trim the tips of all the leaves (All leaf matter that Has no resin).
3.Cut the WHOLE plant down with main stalk used in hanging.
4.Recycle the root ball and the remaining "trunk" lol
5.Keep a fan in the dry room. (try to match you fan to the size of the dry room don't go overboard here)
6.*this is VERY important if you want Dank herb.... NO LIGHT! please keep this room as dark as a clinched butthole.
7.allow 4-7 days at a temp of 66-72 to "slow cure" this is a little longer but Mold doesn't dig cool temps and with the fan they cane sit and colonize. this will allow you to keep most water weight and density.
8. Once the branches slightly snap but wont break in two (the rubbery effect) remove them 12 hours later.
9.Trim down buds from main branch and make a hemp bracelet out of the main stem ^.^b lol
10. Place the buds in an air tight Mason Jar where they will remain for 2-4 weeks depending on strain. (Sativa's I cure for 30 day min!) KEEP THEM IN A COOL DRY DARK ROOM!
11. "Burp" or pop the jars and thoroughly shift the buds in the jar and let sit for 10 min. repeat this for every jar everyday for the first 5 days @ 2-3 times a day.
12. day 6-10 burp every other day one to two times a day.
13. as the Buds age the smell and taste will change untill around day 12 when the perfect density should be reached. they should be not to dry not to wet by now and the young smell will be gone. You now have Potent Ganja so long as u flushed and kept the buds out of the Light where thc is converted to THV /THCV.
14. Enjoy! ^^ but remember when you are done re seal the buds and stick em right back in the dark spot. I use my closet inside of a cardboard box. That way if my window is open I still get the pitch black lighting for that Dank Ganja....
follow these basic steps man and you will never get that wet hay smell or horse grass...

Zero, I disagree in many aspects. Each strain will release the chlorophyll in different time frames, in addition ambient humidity during the first part of the drying process makes a difference. A plant that is wet when it is killed is also worse about this. Hanging upside down is bull, just convenience. Paper bags work after the initial drying in a very humid environment. (It works well in a very dry climate to slow the drying too.) It may take a month or more for some species to get that special smell each has.

Myself, I like wire tray/shelf and let the initial dry start and then crocks that I can almost close all the way or all the way depending. I don't play the burb and check for snapping, I can have snapping and still be too wet and have the hay smell. Frankly I find many, many species take 3-4 weeks to completely get rid of the hay smell. In addition once the hay smell is gone the mellow attributes of cannabis comes thru. Properly and completely cured cannabis will no longer be sticky to touch, and will be quite dry to feel, along with a much darker greenish to brown, or golden color, but will not crumble on light touch. This takes time and few are willing to wait that long.

Counting days takes no account into the ambient humidity each time the thing is opened. One should ultimately have a humdor thing like cigar shops have

I can also, Zero, not flush my plants or flush the exact same species. No difference in the end result if the cure is done properly. Now if the plant has been heavily nuted, I think a flush is a great idea, but can make for a very wet plant on the kill if in a very humid environment such as mine. (Pacific NW). I still am finding stuff in your post I disagree with, I will stop, many old wives tales in your post.
