Moving a mom long distance???
Hey guys, This is maybe my 2nd post on this site. Ive been lurking for quite a while, just reading and collecting as much info as I can but now I have a question that I cant get an answer for from anyone else.
I am visiting a friend who also grows. I have been growing bagseed and have had decent luck with it through meticulous detailing. But now my friend is in dire straights and going to sell me his Master Kush Mother. She is not a bush, she is a plant about 26inches x 14inches. He wants to take about 4-5 clones off her before I take her and im leaving in a few days and want to take her back with me. I live 546 miles from said friend, approx. a 10 hour drive. Obviously I cant fly or something with a full size plant. So, ive arranged the ability to drive.
She is in 24hour light cycle and I know a move with about 11 hours of no (or very little light) is going to be STRESSFUL!! But, I dont want to push her to hermie or cause detrimental stress to her. I have tried to figure out what im going to do, and im thinking Im going to put her in a size appropriate trash can with a snap on lid. To protect her from any type of crush threat and so that there is no germs or outside influence from grow room to grow room. Other than the loss of light.
My question is: What kinds of outcomes am I most probably going to experience? and what are other remote possibilities with taking a Mother plant from 24/0 to an abrupt 11 hour period with no light??? Other than having a few newly snipped spots for a few clones, Im thinking I can really minimize stress besides the loss of light. Remember this is a mom that I do not want to hermie or kick into flower mode. Pretty much any and all relevant info is definitely appreciated!!!

It's light LEAKS that cause hermie-ness. And, it's more of an issue for flowering, than vegging. Just put a dark plastic bag over her and keep her in the dark until you get to where you're going. Then start a veg light cycle. Try to keep Mom's "dawn" (lights on) at the same time as your friend had her at. If the move has a time change, take that into consideration (as well as Daylight savings time change) when you set your lights.Keep her in veg mode for a week or so, with very consistent light times. She should be alright. Remember, this is a weed after all, not orchids.

Also: They don't need to be in 24 hour light to be vegging. Vegging can be anything from 18hours on/6 off to 12/12. But, if 24 hours on, was what she was at, set her up that way once the bag is removed. One day of darkness shouldn't hurt. Good luck traveling.

Yea, she is on 24/0 so she will go back to that. I have no plants flowering at this point so all of my plants are 24/0 right now and the flower box is OFF. Im just curious as to what issues I might encounter. Thanks for your input Farmermo! Keep it coming guys!

One day won't make any difference. Just get it back on the regular light cycle as soon as possible. My veg box with my clone mothers is also 18on/6off. When I cut clones from the veg box they go in the clone box which is 24on.

Yep what Rudy et all said....one little 10 hour dark cycle will do little if any harm...drive straight thru, don't dilly dally around and get her back on 24/0 when you get home and things will be fine...these are really a little tougher plants than some give em credit for...oh BTW Congrats on your new Ma!!!
After thinkin a minute, your bud should take the clones NOW, so she can be at least partially recovered from that experience before the little nap she'll take...

^ YEA! Thanks for the info Tank! We got Clonex and plugs and such today. Planning on doing it here in a bit. I wont be leaving until late Friday night. So she would have 4-5 days of recovery. Only going to take a few. And I know they are hardy plants. This is just a rare opportunity to get ahold of a cloneable mother that is a stable, good strain. Also almost all of the characteristics im looking for in plants anyway!!

Take the clones so that she is able to fit in a cardboard box. If still too tall, gently stuff her in, and properly care for her upon arrival. But don't snap anything.
She'll be fine as long as she doesn't get too hot or get tossed-around in the box. A blanket or something to wrap around the pot and keep it in place would be a good idea, as would a little ventilation. An interrupted schedule happens to everyone once in a while, but once back on a regular schedule, she'll forget all about the move.
You're not riding back on a motorcycle, right...?

Sorry it took me soo long to reply. Got her back in good order. I ended up making a crazy contraption. I used the bottom of a small round trash basket about 2 foot tall. and I used the clear top of a plastic cake cover on top. with a couple strips of duct tape to hold it tight. and put them both inside a tight fitting cardboard box and taped it up tight. She didnt get shook around or anything. Its been a few days getting settled back at home and expanding my room to fit her in. Hoping to let her veg out and get comfy a little for a month or two and start getting some clones!!

find an opaque barrel so light will get in. its a weed so it will thrive given time. otherwise take clones yourself and transport that way. be wary though, some states like cali do minor inspections (last time i was doing that route) for med fly and other problem bugs. they will ask if your transporting any fruits or vegatables, say NO. inspections will be minimal. if your going across usa borders, forget about it. best of luck mate:jointsmile:
