coco vs. organic soil and the elimination of fungus gnats

I have always used organic soil and had great results, however, I recently got fungus gnats from a clone and they have been giving me the major blues ever since! I finally decided to switch to coco. I spray AzaMax everytime I water and so far they are greatly reduced, but not gone. Will it take some time before the little sh-ts competely die off or will they live off of the moisture in the coco? They shouldn't have anything much to eat with coco so how are they still surviving and multiplying? Has anyone got fungus gnats that uses only coco?

use mosquito dunks, put one in your water or reservoir. I get them at home depot. It has bacteria that eat fungus gnat larvae.

I am curious azamax says to use it in the feed? right? if so then why are you spraying then feeding, might be why they are not dieing off completely. I have herd azamax will killem dead, mabey your not using it correctly?

I have had great success with azamax in getting rid of fungus gnats. I mix it in with the water when watering or fertilizing. Mosquito dunks work well in resevoir but I grow soil. U can also get some stuff called gnatrol as a soil drench that contains the same bacteria as the mosquito dunks. The bacteria is Bt israelienesis. There are different types of Bt controls for different little nasties and Bti kills gnats. When I use azamax as a soil drench I also use tanglefoot. It is a VERY sticky goo that traps the adults. Fungus gnats are attracted to the color yellow so I buy a bunch of yellow paper plates at The Dollar Store, spread the plates with Tanglefoot, spread the plates around the grow area and catch the adult gnats. I also buy latex gloves to wear when spreading the Tanglefoot. The stuff is a drag to get off of hands or anything else it gets on 'cause it is so sticky.

I ran across a post about this awhile back and it works like a charm! easy, simple and cheap! Take a mosquito dunk and crush it up and take 1/4 teaspoon and add it to the top of each new pot of soil used for the grow. Done.. it works.

Fungus gnats? IS that what those damn things are? Do they hatch from the soil?

Buy some sterile sand at any home improvement center. Sprinkle about a half inch of sand on top of the soil. That's it. At that point the fungus gnats can't get back to the soil and the larvae can't escape. It is very effective, even for serious investations.

if you dont want chemicals & insecticides in your bud go to the grocery store grab some cinnamon sticks & chamomile tea steep about 3-4 tea bags per liter of water & soak the cinnamon sticks in the tea for a few days.

I had them bad a major infestation in my gecko's vivariums & needed a harmless way to kill'em & this knocks'em dead.. I also add a bit of this mixture to my molasses water to keep them away..

some vveerry good suggestions here, i'd do a combo of all you can. Get some big buckets, and dunk the pots in mosquito dunks, and insecticidal soap. after a couple treatments of that, or in conjunction(but the sand might hinder results) and then use like state 1" or so of sand on top of the soil. Problem will be for sure solved if diligent.
